Civfanatics closing down?

None of that is true. I'm not sure what else you want me to say. Steam does not monitor your activities, it just verifies that you own the game when you log in in online mode.

Did you read what I just posted? You are beyond naive if you believe it only does a one-time verification. Why else would Steam be required to start and constantly run on single-player offline games? Please answer my question.

This is just delusional ranting.

Name calling is easy but you didn't answer the question. Why else would Steam be required to start and constantly run on single-player offline games?

Steam is DRM, not some Orwellian conspiracy style monitoring software designed to ensure your thoughts do not deviate from the hive mind.

Yes, Steam is DRM. And it is DRM that is more than just a one-time verification. Why else would Steam be required to start and constantly run on single-player offline games?

Mods are able to be distributed via third party websites which means that Firaxis have no more control over what mods you play than they do in Civ 4.

I already said "It won't matter where you downloaded the mods from". Do you need me to use smaller words so you can understand? Where the mods come from is irrelevant. If the corporate bosses decide they don't like a mod, no matter where it comes from, the have the power to ban it by updating their Steam monitoring program to prevent Civ5 from being played with mods they don't approve of. Other companies already do this. It's sad that the Civ series is falling into this corporate control trap too.

You appear to be quite mad.

You can grow up anytime now. Is that your strategy for having a conversation? Please answer the question. Why else would Steam be required to start and constantly run on single-player offline games?

Now try to act like a big boy and post a response without all the personal attacks.

Because the DRM authentication can be bypassed easily if steam is not integrated into the application while it is running. A launcher is trivial to bypass, steam is much more than that.

It is illegal for Steam to collect information about users without their permission.

You have absolutely no evidence that they are doing this.

You are talking complete and absolute balls.

Yes, Steam is much more that that. It has the power to prevent me from playing the game I paid for with the mods I want to play it with.

That is not illegal if we agree to it in the EULA. Lots of programs collect information about the users. This is also an attempt to change the subject. I never said anything about collecting information. Please try to focus and stay on topic.

Civ5 isn't out yet, but other game companies already do this. The Steam monitoring program will now allow it to be done to Civ5 too just as it is done to other games right now.

You are talking complete and absolute balls.

Reported. The mods have already warned you over and over and I asked you politely.

I.. I don't know what to say here.

Perhaps you should read more than up to the part that says "As detailed below"? Or do you often just stop reading in the middle of things? It often means you completely misunderstand what it says and end up looking foolish.

Shall we read on?

Yes, lets!

"Individual information" is information about a user that is presented in a form distinguishable from information relating to other users but not in a form that personally identifies any user or enables the recipient to communicate directly with any user unless agreed to by the user in advance of such communication. This information may be used to improve Valve's products and online sites, for internal marketing studies, or simply to collect demographic information about Valve's users.

Not because the company disagrees with the content of one of the mods you're playing.

No they don't. You still have yet to provide one single shred of evidence to back up your claims. You're spreading disinformation and intentionally trying to lead others into your personal distorted fantasy.

Reported. The mods have already warned you over and over and I asked you politely.

Ah, threats. Good stuff. Is there no rule against threatening people with reporting them? I guess we shall soon find out.

Don't you know Picard only exists to manipulate your mind into using this meme? It's all because of the corporations dude! They're in the walls!

I finally found a suitable response to mossmonster's post:

I understand if you have problems with words but this is a forum and that is how we communicate here. Go ahead, give the words a try. It's not that scary. First think of an idea you wish to express. Then just type that idea into your computer. You can do it! :pat:

Where did you say, that we are talking about information which will let them allow to identify a user?
Information about users, which do not allow to identify them, are still information about users.

And besides that: You agreed, that they can everytime change this.

But if he expressed his opinion of what you said you would report him.

You see, when you post a load of baseless paranoid ramblings and refuse to back it up with any evidence, people tend to laugh at you.

I'm still learning where the rules are here, because I don't want to be reported.

I assume there is some way to phrase "You are talking complete and utter rubbish" in an acceptable way when it is the pure and honest truth.

Buy yourself some context. I was responding to someone who said they individually monitor the actions of every single gamer so they can persecute them for playing mods that the corporation disagrees with.

Yeah, taking quotes completely out of context and arguing against them is easy. When you feel like having an actual, in context discussion about something, let me know.
