Greetings! My name is Luke aka Gibbon-of-Doom, and I am leading a modding team to create a full
modification of Civilization IV and bring you - CivHeros!

aboutcivheros.jpg

CivHeros will be a full modification of Sid Meier’s Civilization IV. The game will be a cross-breed game, combining super hero action with turn based strategy, a genre that is relatively untouched in the games industry. The game will play in the same style of Civ IV, but deeply involved in the super-hero genre.

gameplayoverview.jpg

Players will begin the game with a builder, and a henchman or sidekick unit, enabling them to construct a base of operations and aim to take over the world as the leading Super Hero Power! The timeline of the game will span one hundred and fifty years, starting at the year 1900. Players will construct, research, and fight their way to victory. Players will select a particular race of super-heros, including mutants, naturally trained, technology-based and others. Each of the races will have good and evil counterparts.

world%20overview.jpg

The world will be very similar to Civ IV’s world, with terrain types, resources and various other features. Three new terrain types added to the world will be:

TOWN
Town will be around the outskirts of large cities, with increased commercial benefits for player’s bases.

CITY
Cities are expanded versions of the town terrain square, with further commerce bonuses.

METROPOLIS
Metropolis is the densest form of town-terrain in the game, with the greatest commerce bonus.

A new terrain feature that will be added is:
HIGHWAYS
Highways will connect cities and towns together, resulting in a reduced production bonus for that square – (reduced because the base may be viewable from the highway by civilians, therefore reducing the secrecy of the base).
Highways will be able to be used by units to travel quickly along the ground.

Added and Altered resources will include, but not be limited to:
PRODUCTION RESOURCES:
Radioactive Materials
Beasts, Reptiles and Arachnids
(These will be used for genetically spliced units)

MAGMA, ICE & OTHER ELEMENTAL RESOURCES
These will be used for elemental units

COMMERCIAL RESOURCES
Diamonds
Criminal Endeavors
(These will be placed in towns/cities/metropolis)

INFLUENTIAL RESOURCES
Spandex
(The luxury of having a fashionable costume will draw super Heros and villains to your cause.)

Units that the players can construct will consist of all depend on their race and resources. Each unit will have a maintenance value. Combat units will come in the following main groups:

SIDEKICKS
Sidekicks are the basic combat units for the races that are on the good side of the law. These units can be produced in bases and are the core fighting units of the game for the goodies.

HENCHMEN
Henchmen are the equivalent of sidekicks but henchmen are for the evilly aligned races. These can also be produced in bases, and are the core fighting units of the evil races.

SUPER-HEROS
Super Heros are very strong units for the goodies, capable of decimating enemy units in a single turn, and are therefore difficult to acquire.
Super Heros are matched evenly against Super Villains.
Super Heros can be obtained via various methods:

Influence milestones
Treasury milestones
Research milestones
Special buildings

Super Heros will either be based around fictional Super Heros from Marvel and DC comics, or purely fictional based on our own ideas, depending on their replies from licensing. Super Heros could include, but will not be limited to:

Wolverine from the X-Men
Gambit from the X-Men
Spiderman
The Hulk

Each Super Heros will be based around their fictional character, and have special powers and enhancements all relative to their history and background.

SUPER-VILLIANS
Super Villains are very strong units for the baddies, capable of decimating enemy units in a single turn, and are therefore difficult to acquire.
Super Villains are matched evenly against Super Heros.
Super Villains can be obtained via various methods:

Influence milestones
Treasury milestones
Research milestones
Special buildings

Super Villains will either be based around fictional Super Villains from Marvel, DC comics and other comics, or purely fictional based on our own ideas, depending on their replies from licensing. Super Villains could include, but will not be limited to:

The Lizard from Spiderman
Magneto from X-Men
Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Lex Luther from Superman

Each Super Villain will be based around their fictional character, and have special powers and enhancements all relative to their history and background.

OTHER UNITS
Other units in the game will consist of, but will not be limited to:

Workers - Ability to construct improvements on the world map.
Builders - Builders will be needed to construct new bases of operation.
Transports - Transports will be used to safely and quickly transport units around the world, much like the X-Men’s Blackbird.
Amphibious Units - Certain units will be able to make use of the water much like land; these will include reptilian units, for instance.

bases%20of%20operation.jpg

Bases will operate much like the cities in Civ IV. Each race will be able to construct as many bases as they desire, enabling increased production and research, but greater economical and maintenance costs. The first base that each race builds will become that race’s Headquarters (HQ), and will have reduced maintenance costs for all buildings constructed in the HQ.

In a base you will be able to:

Construct Buildings,
Construct Units,
Allocate Global Research,
‘Farm’ the surrounding terrain,
Allocate Specialists

tech%20overview.jpg

Global research will contribute to the discoveries of new and exciting technologies for your race. These technologies will enable new buildings and units to be constructed, reveal powerful and special resources on the map, and enable other branches of technologies to be researched.

Technologies will be allocated to various genres, such as Economy and Growth, and each race will have specific technologies relative to their origins.

Examples of technologies will include, but not be limited to:

Nuclear Anomalies
Nuclear Fission
Genetic Splicing
Global Positioning Satellites
Elemental Fusion
Elemental Enchanting
Chemical Enhancements
Biochemical Engineering
Advanced Radar Systems

Currently the team consist of 2 3D/2D artists and animators, (including myself), a novice Python programmer and various designers. We are all students, and will be devoting our spare time to this game!

We are currently looking for XML and Python programmers to help out on the mod, as well as concept artists, texture artists and general ideas and input! - But, if you have ANY skills you think you could apply to this idea, please, let us know!

-- EDIT -- We are also looking for people with vast knowledge of comics! - People who love comic books and their universes are definatly welcome to help out!!

If anyone is interested in working on this game, please contact me via email at gibbonofdoom@gmail.com, or you can find me on msn at gibbon_of_doom@hotmail.com!

Also, general feedback in this thread is Greatly appreciated! - I would love to see what the Civ IV community thinks!

Please keep an eye on http://www.civheros.com for more information as and when we update! -

Thanks!

Your pal, the Gibbon-of-Doom.

A very fun and unique idea ... I like it!

Belizan,

We did think along these lines to a certain degree, and may infact go ahead with using Cops/Police as the Goodies standard units, but at the same time Superheros in comics and whatnot seem to be mostly solo operators, while most of the Suppervillains seem to be more of the 'lots of weak units and strong supervillain catagory.

We shall have to see what the various races bring!

Thanks very much for your input :) Much appreciated

Woah replies!

Jesus! It's been 10 months since I came up with this idea, but quite clearly, it didn't go into production.

It's still something I would love to create, and would be an awesome mod to an awesome game. . . If interest springs back up, well, who knows! I'd Definatly need help though, as I'm no programmer or web-admin type,

And yes, I did spell Heroes wrong. haha :D

So yeah!

- Gibbon

I want this game to have custom music and also a lot of technology to make this mod fun.

I want a grilled cheese sandwich.

...

*waits*

...

Hmm - that didn't work either.

================

I do like the premise behind this idea though - it would likely need some thoughtful map-making rather than throwing the normal Civ4 scripts at it - the "flavour" would be very different.

If interest does pick up and you have something specific you need to work out coding-wise, let me know and I'll take a shot at it.
