Civiliopedia issues

I experienced some problems with the new Civiliopedia both while playing gotm24(Korea) with a clean "Civ1.29f+gotm21full+22upd+24upd" installation, and while playing the new 6-2(Persia) game after swapping back the 3 txt-files from the "before gotm22"-directory.

Since both games aren't closed for submission yet, I won't go into detail (unless cracker permits it), but instead post the general outline of things:

1. Some entries are blank (mostly concerning new Races)
2. Some new buildings/wonders are an additional (not replacing) instance of an existing building/wonder with the same description but new name. I'm sure that not all of them are functionally "stacking" - some must be just obsolete. (I'm not talking of units.)
3. Some new small wonders are said to be buildings with entire different(=wrong) functionality.

My question is, are these things (a) installation bugs, (b) Civ1.29f related problems, (c) gotm programming bugs or (d) intended?!

P.S.: All "a guide to the new material" links are working perfectly

We probably do not need to go into too much detail on the races/tribes" issue.

The software has a hard coded fault in it that will not self concatenate, so just adding descriptions of the new races requires seperate manually entries.

The function is not built in to map references from more that one "race/tribe" to a single entry. I just elected not to create internal spam in the civilopedia by copying the entries over and over. Besides, the concept in place her was to have you figure out what you could about the new races as if you didn't know them when you met them. Sort of like what you would have to do under more realistic conditions. Use you game skills to figure out the traits and strengths of the races/tribes you meet.

The substitute building and wonders in v1.29 that are used to fill in gaps created by the PTW add in stuff just re-use existing artwork and references. This is just to minimize the download times and install crossover.

With the exception of the stock exchange and sometimes the commercial dock/ports of entry, play testing has shown that most of the PTW related add-on improvements are rarely used. The Internet wonder could be renamed "Nuclear Culture Bomb."

You can find more info on the added buildings by reading the Civ2v1.29 game information page for any Gotm game numbered from 17 thru 21. We have recently stopped republishing this infor each month because some players complaine it made the game setup to long and hard to read. :crazyeye:

Glad to hear that the "Guide to the New Material" links are all working. For those of you who may not know where that Guide can be found, it is under Game Concepts at the bottom of the main index page of the Civilopedia. That is the first page that pops up when you click on the in-game icon in the upper left hand corner of the map.

We have tried to supplement the original information in the Civilopedia so that you don't have to exit out of the game and go back to the CivFanatics site to get answers to questions that are not addressed in the original Civilopedia. There are condensed strategy articles that other players have written and many more cross references to make it easier to find things.

It is an ongoing process because new articles are continually being written and old articles are updated with new information.

This might be a good thread to give us your suggestions for new material that you would like to see added.

Ah, thanks alot! I wonder why you didn't put those info into the new Civiliopedia as well? Some entries (Stock Exchange, Internet) seem to be just copied and thus are completely misleading. Also it would be nice to at least have some infos on the very civ I am currently playing (the gotm24 anouncement did NOT say anything about the Koreans traits nor special unit).

...uhm, and once more: What does the Internet do? My Civ.pedia says it's an additional UN, the gotm21 anouncement says it's an additional SETI (=research labs for all), and you just said something about some "Culture Nuke"?!?

You said this twice, so obviously it is important to you. The choice in Gotm24 was to provide you with no information on the civs you would meet so that you would have to play the game to develope an opinion of what and who they were instead of just using the F12 key to list all the civs that you have not yet met in the world even thousands of years before you could really know who and what they were. The intent here was just to put more emphasis on the thrill of discovery and the wonder of observation.

Many people do not realize that the internet gives free Research labs in every city on the continent even if those cities have no libraries or universities. Also the reseach labs will each generate culture points, so in an empire of 100 cities the Internet Wonder has the potential to produce 100's ofculture points per turn which is essentially a "culture nuke" by comparison to the best other wonder at 8 culture points per turn. Essentially its game over for most praical purposes.

I did get that since the first spoiler thread ;).

I'm just wondering why (for at least some thousands of years) the leaders of Seoul do not know anything about the abilities of the people of Seoul, their OWN people?!

The informed leaders of the Korean people were allowed to take advantage of the Pre-game discussion thread where all the would-be Wang Kon's could commiserate and discuss how to use the strengths of the Korean people to their advantage:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=65070

The information in the pregame discussion thread goes ten to twenty times beyond any information you might find on the traits of your people in the Civilopedia.

In many ways you are writing your own history.

Since the Civ3v1.29 version is just provided to fill in the distribution and functional gaps that were created by PTW, we do not try to just copy and duplicate the information you could purchase. In many cases the Gotm events will be better and more complete than the PTW info that was produced to help market the game, but in other cases we end up just bypassing of leaving out non-criticalpath stuff.

Did you read the pregame discussion thread before playing?

Lalalaalala...oh uhm what? Sorry but I just talked to a notsoinformed leader of the Korean people, and he admitted that he unfortunately had not bothered reading 184 speculation posts but rather immediately started to play after stumbling over a really cool website called gamesomewhatthemonth...however he slowly realizes that this behaviour perhaps wasn't his brightest idea. :crazyeye:
