I was just thinkingabout what Civilization 4 would be like, so feel free to post your thoughts on the subject.

I think, for one, that there should be post-modern ages, in order to extend the game longer. Lets say post-modern age 1, is racked by warfare. War gets more and more deadly, with many new units feeding the fire. Strategic resources start disappearing, so it is characterized by fighting for the resources that remain. I think that the Civs should get a second unique unit in this age, each mirroring there first, with similar names and balancing.

:die:

I've always thought the idea of a "Future age" would be cool. New technologies, weapons, city improvements would add more to the game and give you a reason to play longer.

The idea of resources running out is a great idea. Every Civ would have to fight for control over the worlds last remaining oil resources.

I'd like to see even bigger weapons of mass destruction. Something like Fusion Weapons, that will completely destroy a city and everything in it's radius and leaves no pollution.

I like the idea about the fusion weapons. Also, I think something to do with alien attacks or having to protect your civ and the planet from alien invasions.

Also, please bring back the wonder's videos. I can't stress that enough.

NO FUTURE AGE! *cries out in rage*

What is it with you people wanting to ruin a great game? What are we going to have? Units with 200A/100D/8 movement? I think the real strength of civ is the history. If you want the future - mod it.

I am avidly anti-future age.

I hope revolutions are included (intelligently) in Civ4, and I hope that navies and blockades are significantly improved.

Another anti-Future here.

A lot less Euro/Americano-centrism would be nice.

Other things I want:
- Better navy
- Logical AI thinking (I still don't get the AIs decisions)
- Revolutions and schisms
- Some natural disasters

Yea I can really go niether way. But a future time will strip this game of it's soul and replace it with something else. Who knows, maybe fraxis will make a future era to attract different age groups. And a future time could be better. If you don't like how it's changed, then you can always stick with civ 3

I also hope for expanded naval units and the ability to attack trade routes.

I would like to see an expanded, more graduated system for the very destructive nuclear weapons. Does anybody remember the card game "Nuclear War"? You had to combine a warhead with a delivery vehicle to make an attack. I'd like to see something like that implemented where one or more warheads would be "loaded" onto a delivery vehicle. As you made your way up the tech tree, you could gain access to deadlier warheads: conventional explosive, fission, enhanced fission, fission-fusion (thermonuclear), and neutron bombs. On a separate track, you could improve your delivery vehicles from short range, light payload, to intercontinental multiple re-entry vehicles, and cruise missiles.

This would add the nuclear escalation feeling to the game, where countries try to deter nukes with even bigger nukes. "The Russians fear our MX missiles and 10-megaton MIRV warheads, sir!"

I wan't the IA to think!

Most of all I want the IA to understand that if I destroyed 2 civ's with a little interval and will start war with a fird civs that all the IA will make an iliance against me...

I want a screen of rules, and i will choose there some important things.
Like- if to allow prostitusm and what propoganda to make.

If I will have problems and the people wouldn't be upset i want to be able to build concentration camps and stuff like that, I mean not me - the IA.

Or in other case I will start a propganda and will say that our civ is the best and we must conquer the world...So the people would be glad but after some time I will have to start a war and then the IA should get from my propofanda that I'm going to crush everyone and will unite!

I think the sity structure now is really leaved itself, it is really boring putting a sity every there!
I want some grand changes!
Huge changes couse all the civs are similiar to much!

If I won't be able to build an offensive units it will be fine.
- Like- you want that the military service will be 3 years and you have these number of units and you can do with them what you want.

I want much more intreting trading.
Also I want an option that if you capture an enemy sity the IA that have nothing to do with that will say- remove your forces and give the sity back or we will join the war.
I wan't to be able to ask or even to make civs to sign peace treaty otherwise I will declare war against them!

I want a lot of things and it will take at least a weak to write it down, and meanwhile I will have some more stuff in my head...

So I should'nt rush too much, lets wait while Sid Meirs will start thinking about civ4 and then try to suggest...

Something Id like to see in a "Future Age" in Civ4 (or maybe Civ5) is the possibility of random global catastrophic events. For example: Your science advisor tells you that astronomers have detected a 3 mile asteroid heading to Earth that will impact in 150 years but there is no technology currently available to stop it. There is now a whole new set of techs to research in order to deflect or destroy the asteroid and you have about 150 years to do it. If you fail, do to distractions from war or whatever, well, the manure hits the fan bigtime, civilization is destroyed globally, cities are abandoned, population drops to game start levels and there you are all over again, a worker and a settler walking around looking for a good location to place the "first" city. This would be random though, it wouldnt happen at the same point in every game.

Dumb pothead,

that is probably one of the coolest ideas I've heard yet.

you're right about that. But I still like the idea of having an alien invasion or something like that. I beleive that aliens have atleast visited this world already. Ofcourse I have no valid evidence to back that up.

ditto

although disappearing resources sounds good to me. One goes bye-bye everytime a civ is eliminated.

I know CtP sucked, and due to licensing issues, will probably never be another one. When i think of future age, i think more along the lines of SMAC, though not nescesarily on the exact same trap (that living planet stuff was kinda creepy:confused:.) Basically, it is just a logical advance on what is occurring now. And besides, most games end before the modern age anyway.
Just think of a continuation of todays issues, such as cloning, human genome project, and stuff like that. I'm sure Sid Mier will do what he thinks is best.

I don't like the idea of a future age either, there are many many other changes I'd like to see before they even try to include some hippie future age. Better AI is the first thing that comes to mind...

I think that the importance of navies should be improved also. They were next to useless. I think the AI should be given a big overhaul too. I'm playing a 8 civ game on pangea, with mutual protection pacts with everyone but the egyptians, and they decide to declare war on the me. Smart move.

Civil wars, including within your own civ.
Revolting subcivs should get their own new leaderheads.
I'd like to see Robert E. Lee versus Ayatollah Khomeini.

I originally posted this on the 'Civ4 Lounge & Ideas' thread.

1. Government: I believe that they should bring back the senate from CIv2. The Senate would be used to represent the peoples will in decisions, so if you go against the senate, you cause civil unrest.

2. Civil War: I think that another Civ, or your own negligence could trigger a civil war. Lets say you control a large Despotic empire. You've learned of other governments, and your people yearn to change, but you do not. If you inflame them enough, half of them, normally the less well off half, would split off and form a new capital in the largest and best city that they control. They get an automatic government change, and you can offer to pursue war to bring them back to you. However, another civ could take advantage of this, and side with the rebels and fight for them, taking advantage of your weakened status. It would add another level of depth to the game, though it wouldn't be too fun to be caught in the said situation.

3. Religion: I believe that religion should be worked into the game like governments, each effecting your civilization a certain way. Here would be some prime candidates:
Greek Pantheon
Egyptian Mythology
Norse Mythology
Zorastorianism(I think that is how it is spelled)
Roman Mythology
Shintoism
Taoism
Buhddism
Islam
Judaism
Chrystianity
Each would have its own benifits and problems. Lets say Norse Mythology, being that the Norse were warlike, would give your units a fanaticism bonus in battle, but citizens would be easy to convert to other religions when captured by a rival. Followers of Islam would get the same fanaticism bonus, but couldn't be converted easily, and were intolerant of infidels, creating great civil unrest in your cities. Feel free to post your thoughts on this subject of religion. Anyway, If you change religion, the Conversion would start in your capital and slowly work its way out, picking up speed as it went. More easily converted religions would go quicker, but others, such as Islam, would slow the process. Greek Pantheon followers are tolerant of other religions, so Converting from them would be quicker and less painful. Depending on empire size and religion, it could take anywhere from five to one hundred turns to fully convert. Also, religious civs would take twice as long to convert, as they are fervent followers of the current religion.

4. City size: I believe, that once a city reaches a certain size, such as size 30, it should cover up the surrounding squares, turning them into part of the city. The city would cover up a total of nine squares, but would get resources from up to 28 squares, as shown in this diagram

[Z]=Unused
[X]=resource square
[o]=City square

[Z][Z][X][X][X][Z][Z]
[Z][X][X][X][X][X][Z]
[X][X][o][o][o][X][X]
[X][X][o][o][o][X][X]
[X][X][o][o][o][X][X]
[Z][X][X][X][X][X][Z]
[Z][Z][X][X][X][Z][Z]

Thank you for bearing with me.

Well if you look at everything that everyone is asking do you think that it is possible to include it all in one game? More or less it would take a few releases to include it all.

The AI should be a given and needs to be reworked, and some other things that may be out of our hands, but if the developers see what I see and that is we want too much.

So I suggest that they make the Civ editor even better with double no triple the options all ready there, and why stop there make a diplomacy editor, so we can make our own packs/alliances/embargoes and adjust how long they last/ if they can be broken and how bad the rep hit would be for breaking it, small/great wonder editor, a city improvement editor, a unit editor, these three would let you create wonders, improvements, and units from scratch. Also a resource editor, and a leader head editor to create our own leader heads. I guess some of these editors can be obtained now but it would be way cooler if it was included in the game, and for all the editors they would be very simple to use and you would not need to read a book to create a unit/wonder or whatever.

I think the difference in a good game and a great game is the ability to extend the life of that game through modification. I could name a few games that I am looking forward to their second or third edition/release just for the fact that the games were really good but they all included nice editors that enabled the buyer to create and modify with ease. But that's just my thoughts, and I seem to have a lot of them.
