Hello. Do you know if they have said something about release a Civ5 Expansion soon?
Civ5 is messy and Im waiting for a good expansion alike beyond the sword. Do you know if there will be expansions or they will make this little segmented updates via Steam and sell it you you instead release all in a new expansion???

Meet Micro-transactions, the expansion of tomorrow, today!
And meet its evil cousin, bundled micro-transactions

Thats what i think Firaxis will do, just bring out heaps and heaps of micro-transactions, while adding the core gameplay changes, like Spys, to the core game through patches. They'll also bundle up all the microtransactions and offer them at a discount as an 'expansion'
Thats just what I think, though

There will probably be some kind of expansion.

Why are micro-transactions evil? Or is the future just scary to you?

There is no news of it yet, and it's not fully certain if there will be an expansion.

But until then enjoy the DLC coming out every two months or so :)
And bear in mind that there is the possibility that there won't be an expansion and that it'll only be DLC.
(I'm not saying that's the case, but it is a possibility. )

their expansion might well just be a combo of currently released DLC Civ's, maps and a spy for 59.99 over steam.
A DLC-bundle as an alternative to an expansion is certainly an option, yes :)
Although the price will probably be a lot less than that (depending on the amount of DLC ofcourse).
And the good thing of DLC is that you can mix'n'match the stuff you want and don't want. So you don't have[/] to buy the maps for instance, ergo you dont have to pay for stuff you don't want or need.

But to get back to the main question: No, there has been no announcement, nor hint, about an expansion pack coming out.

Probably a good time to point out that for a long time people didn't know if there was to be a Civ V or not. I remember people redirecting Civ V to Civ Rev on wikipedia and being shouted down when I simply redirected to the series as a whole as according to them it "was Civ V". On top of that around here a lot of people declared that Civ Rev was Civ V and that it was a disgrace to the series and the end of all thing they held dear and those of us who thought that there would be a Civ V were called idiots at one time or another for thinking otherwise.

The company normally hold their cards close to their chest. Normally they release the expansions around June/July and announce them Feb/March. So maybe there might be one next year, or maybe they'll change the model all together and announce a new expansion after the next patch rounds when all the dust from E3 has settled, you never know. My bet would be that if there was to be an expansion that it will be announced march next year though.

This makes a lot of sense, and I tend to agree to your points.

Until then, we have the DLCs, which, imho, have been excellent, both in quality, and in value for money. Good new civs, and some great scenarios.

If the current trend continues, i.e. a DLC every other month, that will be another 5, the 5th being March, 2012, and I would guess an expansion may be announced with, or shortly after, the DLC. I presume that DLCs will then continue, as they do give Fraxis regular income. I'm also guessing that any expansion will not include new civs, or scenarios, as that is the territory of DLCs.

If that would happen (continuous DLC's parallel to an expansion), that would really, really make me a happy man! :)

In all honesty, I don't think I really would want a full $40-50 civ expansion. That said I wouldn't mind if they kept releasing good quality DLC while polishing/adding elements to the base experience.

Even Beyond the Sword I didn't think was all that awesome if it wasn't already bundled with a bunch of balance/polish changes... and we are getting those more or less for free now and the only thing really missing are mechanic additions.

If i get all the features of an expansion minus the new civs & scenarios for free through patches then SWEET! keep em coming. :D

Otherwise i'm hoping for an expansion at some point that has all the DLC.

So far that has been the case.

If there will also be an expansion with civs included then I don't think the DLC-civs will be in there, as it would be unfair for the people that have already bought the DLC.
It would also really hurt any further DLC sales as some people will probably wait until the next expansion knowing the DLC will be included.

Of course nothing would stop Firaxis from putting additional civs in the expansion which are not in the DLC.

I think if they make an expansion these DLC civilizations aren't going to be in it, but they most likely will bundle them up and sell them cheaper when the expansion hits so people can buy them at the same time. That would be how I would do it. Still most likely the DLC's will be on sale on some point. I'm expecting them to be on sale during next christmas if not some point earlier.

Yeah, I assume it would be something like that.

I expect them to be on sale somewhere between monday and the 4th of july :)
(Last year's summer sale started on the 24th of june)

Has there been any news about the upcoming DLC coming up at the end of this month, or early July?

Every couple of months Firaxis tweak a few modifiers, add a new building or graphic, and rearrange the social policies so that they can justify selling another DLC.

This is much more profitable than actually addressing issues in the core game and thus releasing an expansion, because the programmers don't really have to do any work, they just tweak a few variables in the XML files and then go off to play with their friends.

You miss the part in the next patch/patches that mentions AI and Diplo changes? Oh and the part where it's "free". You are right about one thing though, they do justify the time spent on these patches with the DLC and game sales they are trying to promote.

Don't need $50.00 expansions to give us that apparently anymore.

In a thread a few months ago, one of the moderators made a mention of a possible expansion in the holiday time frame of this year. That's not too far away and the right time for a marketing blitz.
