No more air mission madness...

So stop the moaning, all of you!

PS
I didn't expect the mighty centurion MikeC to be satisfied!

Dude, I am never satisfied.

but that said, the game as far as I know works as advertised. While there are things I don't like with the game, I can live with the "shortcommings" that I percieve.

what did he mean by that? Palaces can be built in only one city???
As stated earlier in this thread. A Palace can't be initiated in multiple cities as a sort of holding place or savings account for shields while you wait for a tech advance to allow a new wonder.

It's not a common practice but it was an exploit.

So, we are going to get an updated CivilizationIII.exe, Civ3Edit.exe and also a Civ3mod.bic not to mention Civilopedia.txt.

I wonder how this would affect the mods and editors that are currently available:confused: And can the hacked editor still be used if a new Civ3mod.bic is downloaded? If not then mod maker will no longer be able to add resources and such :(

All in all still a good patch :goodjob:

The AI always seem to want to trade with other AI in the beginning of the game... He never asks to the player to trade techs, always another AI. So, you're always backward in tech advances, money and world maps... They just ignore you until you ask them for trade... I don't know if it is a bug and if it will be corrected but it's very frustrating sometimes when you see you're the weakest civ in your game just because AI doesn't ask you for trade...

I don't think this will be such a big deal. I think the point of this was addressing the early game issue where you would basically set your science to 10% and it would be no different than setting it at 100%, since each would yield the tech in 32 turns. As it stands now, you're silly not move your science rate way down at the beginning and get large cash surplus. I think this way you can't just rake in cash and not have it effect your rate of tech discovery. My guess is when you get to the lower limits, say, 10-40% science, you'll find that it takes 40 turns, whereas a higher science rating will do it in 32. Then you have to make a decision. It probably will only effect the very beginning of games. Just a guess, though.

I wouldn't worry about the AI taking early liberties with trading tech. The human ability to manipulate trades against the AI in the mid-late game far outways an early advantages the AI takes. Get those resources and start trading (exploiting) the AI!!!!

Sorry to be a repeat post-er ... and while I think the patch is great ... there is one point that has frustrated me more than any of these fixes. I can live with the little things ... this is major ... WHERE IS THE TRADE TRACKING SCREEN. IF ANYONE FROM FIRAXIS IS FOLLOWING THIS MESSAGEBOARD ... COULD YOU PLEASE COMMENT?

MAJOR GRIP NOT ADDRESSED

Where is the separate trading screen that allows you to view all your outstanding trades with other civs? It's a real pain in the ass the have to enter into discussion with every civ in order to find out when your trades run out. At higher levels you have to keep constant check on when the potential for re-negotiating becomes available - this makes the endgame inparticular extremely boring and frustrating. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. SOME SORT OF TRADE TRACKING MECHANISM IS DESPERATELY NEEDED. The AI will not automatically cancel an unbalanced trade ... you need to know when that 63 per turn bursary from the Romans is going to run out! Especially if you need that money (or resource, or luxury) to stay in the black.

WE NEED A TRADE TRACKING SCREEN

Soooo.... Forgive me for asking, but how will the patch effect the various Mods we've all been downloading? Do you guys think the patch will simply override these changes (corruption reducing Mods come to mind) or will the patch combine on top of the changes already made?

Criticism yes, abuse no. One of the great lies in gaming forums is that venom and unrelenting attacks get you heard. Personally, nothing can be farther from the truth. The first time I read an abusive post from someone is the last time I read an abusive post from someone (thanks to UBB's wonderfully robust ignore feature). Nothing is accomplished with a threat that isn’t accomplished by simply stating the facts. It's quite the opposite, since if it convinces me that they're more interested in the forum than the game, I'm done listening.

In short, being critical is fine. Threats, slander, and personal attacks ensure you'll never be heard by me again.

Jeff

No kidding. I am not one who will always chime in with the developer, but he has a point here. The previous poster was saying that Civ3 was broken without this patch, and that just isn't true. Consider how much $ they put into producing this product. Consider how *polished* it is, compared to the gaming industry (many reviews I've seen rave at this. So, yes, there were some issues that needed to be resolved, but this is still a fine game and very, very playable without the patch.

By the way, what about precision bombing? Is that in the patch? I might have missed it in the readme.

Also regarding corruption. Cheat by using the editor to modify existing structures to include anti-corruption. (temp fix). I did this and the game is much funner. I also increased the terrain productivity just slightly, and it made a world of difference. Totally different style of play - which to me is a big reason why this game is so *damn* addicting.

"WE NEED A TRADE TRACKING SCREEN"

Based on the progress from Civ 2 to 3, probably not until Civ 5, or maybe even 6 :(.

Well, I for one would like to thank MikeC! A

And all others that refused to....man, here is where i wish there was an ass-kissing icon.....give in to all the whiners complaining about those that had issues.

If it weren't for the fact that a lot of people in this forum put the issues out there in the first place, probably a number of these fixes wouldn't have been fixed.

If you believe Firaxis didn't listen and would have came out with the same list of fixes, you're just being stuborn and don't want to admit that maybe the criticism had a postive effect.

Now I can concentrate on *****ing about no MP!!!! :goodjob:

Jeffrey,

Thanks a ton for taking the time to update us on the patch. I have had experience before when developers just give you something and never support it, never say why, and never offer any help.

And I'm sure we all appreciate our voices being heard, if for no other reason than our being assured that we live in a democracy, and not in despotism, even in the game world.

For everyone out there that still has problems with the upcoming patch: I couldn't get my Accord the color I wanted, you can't get a playoff in college football, and pong *still* doesn't come in color. Man, I can't understand why Texas Instruments and Atari don't still have updates and patches coming out. I am so mad those games are broke, why did they do such a crappy job? I can't believe when I don't enjoy video games, I should maybe do a little exercise or read a book instead of ranting on about it all.......what a cruel world.

I hope sarcasm doesn't run in the vein of slander or personal attack.

Thanks again.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but Air superiority didn't work. The game was broken. Period.

As for Jeff Morris, he doesn't have to listen to me if he doesn't want to. I am well within my right though to complain, slander and do anything else I want when a) they released a borken product, b) they sealed their lips and gave no information to us, THE PAYING CUSTOMERS on when or what was going to get fixed.

He wants critisism, but only if we are willing to lick his shoes first. He wants us to kneel down and present him the "facts" while bowing our heads in thankfulness. Gimme a break.

But as the saying goes Caveat Emptor.

They can sure that I'll be doing my best to spread the word of mouth on how Firaxis treats customers.

Here's a question... whenever I try to use the editor to rename a unit, the game then crashes (does anyone else have this problem?).
Example: The "Cossacks" pictured in the game are actually dressed as "Hussars." When I rename them, crash time.
Will this patch solve said problem?

Read the Civ3Edit.hlp file, you need to rename an art folder and INI file. The unit name is what drives the art.

Yes, and some of the games corrupted by the infamous IO error twins should actually be able to be repaired by the game once the patch is applied.

No where on the Civ 3 website or the box of Civ 3 or the press releases stated Civ 3 was a multiplayer game. You can't shout and complain about something they didn't promise.

Not sure because there is a lot, but I dont think I saw the Air superiority fix or precision strike. Am I right?

...and on, and on, and on 19 more times...

Hey, this is a pretty darn good idea. It irks me (though it certainly won't keep me from playing the game) to keep getting into the trade screen and then going to "active" to check on each and every one of my trades. This could probably be inserted in one of the advisor screens.

Cybernut, I think that you got a lot of attention with your "yelling" this 21 times, and posting the same thing twice, but it still doesn't make it any less annoying. If you post something intelligent, people will read it; you don't have to scream it out. My "gripe" is that you need to get a "grip." :)

THIS PATCH IS GREAT!

I've always wanted the "continue to build the last unit built" option. I'm sure that's good news for all the Civ 2 players out there (I'm one 'o them).

Someone must e-mail me when the patch comes out!

I think someone from Firaxis (Dan?) is reading this ... so I'm going to press the point (THE NEED FOR A TRADE TRACKING SCREEN). Sorry if I'm boring anyone ... but it's not often the consumer can be heard on these matters and make a difference.

I've quit two games when I was on the verge of winning at Deity (and we all know how difficult that is) because it was becoming just too boring and frustrating keeping in touch with my outstanding trades (how often did we do this in Civ 2?). The reason I was in a position to win was because of my trading. Therefore I had to stay on top of this matter ... which meant the labourious task of going through all the various civ diplomacy screens almost every turn.

In the end I turned to a pen and paper!! I think that that says it all. I think that Firaxis should be congratulated for reducing the late game boredom with regards traditional aspects of the game (e.g. those that carry over from Civ 2). But the (wonderful) new additions to the game have created new problems in this field. I hope that Firaxis can address this problem. Please give us a TRADE TRACKING SCREEN!

(Again, I apologise for repetitivity)

Don't forget civ3edit.hlp!

old BIC files should be compatible, however the BIC file format can and does change as we add things in to the editor, so there is a good chance the "hacked" editor won't play nice with new BIC files. As long as the "hacked" editor obeys the rules of the BIC format, though, BIC's created with it should still work. No guarantees, though.
