Civilization V demo release date announced: 21st of september

I wish we could play the demo earlier, but in all honesty, I WILL be downloading the demo and playing it until the game arrives in the mail.

I don't understand it, but it doesn't make me think less of Civ5, for sure. I just wish they would use demos like companies did in the past: to build hype for a game. I'm buying it no matter what, but after all this marketing hype for the game Firaxis should have been able to put a demo together sooner.

Demos can also build negative hype, because they give people a chance to find things that they don't like.

Right now there's a substantial group of people who have pre-ordered and are day 1 buyers. Why would they do ANYTHING to give that group a reason not to buy on day 1? The demo isn't for those people, it's for people who are on the fence and will wait to buy.

I find playing a demo for a game I already intend to purchase irritating because of how it is crippled. The only use a demo has in my mind is if I'm unsure whether to purchase a game. And if that is the case, I would much rather the company spent the proper time on the demo to ensure that it is release quality instead of rushing out a half-baked demo. I've played demo's that were based on "Beta" versions of a game. On a couple occasions I have not purchased a game because the buggy demo made me think the game is not fun.

Seriously, the demo will not persuade anyone who would bother to order it before release. That's not the point. Personally, I'm just happy there is a demo. I have antiquated hardware, and I need to see how it rolls before I drop any $$$.

I don't care about a demo. Buying the special edition and also don't care that I am missing extras dished out to download/steam buyers. I know it will come to me eventually.

Side note: I am surprised that games and movies are advertised as like "Arriving in Fall". Well, down in Australia, Fall (Autumn) is Mar-May. We are in Spring tomorrow! 3rd Quarter would be better description. Also, while you guys are fixing that, convert to metric, Celsius and change your date format to dd/mm/yyyy :)

Getting the water to drain clockwise will be easier than what you list above. (Yes, making the myth come true is easier!)

Looking forward to the demo. I'll see if my oldish machine can hack it. It's funny, if it can't, I'll consider getting rid a perfectly good computer, buying a newer one, just for a game.

I know, I know, it's not just a game; it's Civ5 darn it.

Wow, why do some of us get so excited and het up over the silliest of things?

Firstly, many of us do not need the demo; I am sure many poeple will, like me, buy the game whatever the demo experience is like.

Secondly, complaining about the demo release date seems a bit daft to me. The day is the day; I think having a playable demo is more implortant than having it released in an unsuable state. If you need the demo before you buy then just buy it a few days later. Calm down for goodness sake. Its just a demo and its only a game.

Firaxis is a business; they need to manage themselves to maximise their revenues and minimise their costs; if that means laying off staff at some point so be it. I think it is only the worry of shareholders if the management is doing its job; it ought not to conern us here. By all accounts the game is going to be a blast; sorry for the people concerned but what do we care if some staff end their contracts early? Again, calm down boys.

A worry is whether Steam can handle allof this on day 1; but there will be day 2...

Those of us not in the good ol' USA have to wait longer anyway.

Patience is a virtue, let's exhibit a bit more of it please.
