Civitar's Unit Workshop

As I think we've remarked before, Trollocs bear a remarkable resemblance to Warhammer Beastmen. So when I get to doing those for Warhammer, I'll send you the models I make for them. I can also make a couple extra ones, with bird/bear heads of the kind Beastmen don't usually have.

Awesome, those definitely look a lot like Trollocs! Thanks, the additional heads would be great!

Myrdraal seem like the easiest actually - just a Vampire Swordsman given darker armor, a cape, and a different sword, plus the face job. I can make two versions, one hooded and one bareheaded, if you like. Either way the eyelessness is not going to be terribly visible from Civ5 magnification. I'll rig them to Swordsman animations, since making a whole new set of animations just to get them to stab instead of swing is unreasonable.

I totally understand about the animations - had to try to see if there was already a stabbing one handy! One hooded and one bareheaded would be awesome.

Draghkar will have to wait a bit, unfortunately. I'm still not sure what sort of animations to give them that would represent "soul-stealing".

No worries about the wait. I think a kind of "sucking" motion could work as soul-stealing. (Kind of braced against the ground, as if sicking in a really deep breath.) If particle effects are possible, then tiny glimmering dots heading into their heads/mouths as they do it could add a lot.

Thanks again, dude! :D

Don't they describe it as a kind of "kiss" almost?

It's a Harry Potter reference. Know your movies.:p

(OK, that is ironic coming from me. But moving on...)

Hoodless Myrddraal - bald? To enhance the eyelessness...

How about this "attack" for Draghkar?

Stands, legs apart as if bracing itself against a strong wind. Slowly raising and spreading wings and arms like the Undertaker greeting the crowd. Begins swaying as if in a breeze.

Or I might be able to make it do a sort of hugging, and have it lower its head a bit (they are supposed to be quite tall, right?).

The trouble with this unique attack is that the units always want to charge into combat and I don't know how to override that. I know Firaxis did for its ranged and gunpowder units, but it beats me how they did it. Which means it's going to want to run up to the enemy as if to bash its head or whatever passes for its head in. The standing and sucking animation is going to look weird if it slides across the terrain towards its target while doing it... hence the hugging suggestion.

:rotfl: Counterpoint, I don't watch movies very often (hence why it's ironic coming from me...), and I always read the books first if I can.
In the books, you have the whole Dementor's Kiss. In the movies, they made it into a very lame zoom overhead and suck a little glowing light out of the victim's mouth... they didn't even have as good a reason as we do for not doing the actual "kiss"...

Double-posting to announce my next fantasy art project... with brand-new animations!!!
Model by C. Roland originally, I've tweaked it a bit.

I plan to give it:

  • 1 idle animation
  • 2 attack animations
  • 0 fidget animations (it doesn't get bored)
  • 1 fortify animation (think "deactivate")
  • 1 charge animation
  • 1 run animation (might make this the same as charge)
  • 1 combat ready animation (maybe)
  • 2 death animations

Anybody recognize this?:D

yeah, I know, I've seen the movies, but definitely didn't remember that distinction, though! I can certainly imagine the producers didn't love the visual of a zombie/ghost trying to kiss harry....

But, funny parallel here, certainly, indeed. Since they do in fact describe the Draghkar as "kissing" its victim... and yet we won'tt/can't do it either!

Hello Civitar!
Do you happen to have some Wolfmen-models?
Like werewolfs but with weapons and perhaps armor?
I've never seen such models, so I can't give you anything from Civ4 or so...

Belzhorash, I'm going to need quite a bit more information than that to make units.

What kind of armor do they wear? What sort of weapons? By "werewolves" do you mean a man that may suddenly turn into a wolf or a wolf/man hybrid? Do you have reference pictures? What are the units called in the mod?

After you get round to doing the Muscogee unit art for me (and of course everything else) could you perhaps do this?

I know it's a lot to ask of you. (just don't ask what the civ is)

@Firebug, I have to ask what the civ is, though you can reply by PM if you want it kept secret.
(Think about it - it's rather unreasonable to not tell a contributor what they're contributing to, unless you're a Soviet/Nazi.)

I also have to ask for icons.

Hey Civitar!
The units/ the species is called "Varge" (pl.) (sing. Varg, the), like Warg or Wargh in other settings. They are humanoid wolves (not actually werewolves). They can use any armor or weaponry.

Here are some images:

Hi again Civitar,

I've been digging around after a model usable for the Macchieri unit from my original post (the Corsican UU). I've found a couple of Civ4 units, which resembles the Macchieri to a satisfactory degree.
I've done a simple re-skin of it, and was wondering if I could ask for your assistance regarding the conversion process. If you're up for it, the files are in here (and the original files are here).

It would be a BIG help :D

As stated in the OP, if I think icons are crappy I'll say so:

Firebug, I cannot in good conscience put those icons in the OP alongside icons by Jan and Tpangolin and Sukritact...

I will also try to do better ones (which you are of course welcome to use):

:undecide: Admittedly, mine isn't superb either. But it's at least better than the one you have...

(I'll get to the actual graphics later.;))

Also, sorry to disappoint you but I can't actually do the kayak - no animations.:( Even if I made some, what on earth would I make the attack animation be??

Sure! Could you get me the 256x256 of the icon though, please?

Here you go!

And thank you, as said, it's a really big help!
