CivStats.com - View your Pitboss games on the web

Actually, that gave me a thought. Wouldn't it be a good idea to have the host able to specify one "link" that will be displayed on their particular game's Civstats page, which may lead to a thread/forum (or somesuch) which is relevant to the game. In this way interested lurkers or potential replacements can easily get in touch with the members of the game. :)

That has been requested a few times, and I'll add it to my list.

I also like the ability for game organizers to actually "advertise" that they have open slots, and have a Civstats page showing all games that are hiring.

nice new civstats site. the problem is now that i have to loggin every time. the old site remebered my login. is there a remember me option somewhere?

Why not add a forum too ;)

Guess help is niether wanted nor needed :(
I might do a forum, but the problem is that forums are quite a lot of work to do, and I don't really want to run different software for the forum. However, I will do something. I'm just not sure what. ;)

As for help, not at the current time but I appreciate the offer. As I said I'm not going to work on this right now, but I will after I finish this project at work (or at least get to the point where I am not working on it 8 hours a day ;) ) - I'll keep in mind your offer.

Try clearing your cookies. The session data got lost in the transfer and it sounds like you're stuck in a weird limbo state. If you are running Firefox, go to "Tools>Options>Privacy>Show Cookies" and then search for "civstats" and delete all of them.

I also suggest added a way for a player to delete the Diplomacy messages they've received and sent. My list of messages is really starting to get quite long and I don't need most of them there anymore.

I was just joking man.... Tho it might be nice if it were -somehow- -someway- -sometime- integrated into my (and I am sure our) favorite forum CFC :)
Like in My Account or something ;), but I dont think that is going to happen anytime in any fore see able future...

Is there any problem with civstats SMTP notifications at the moment? I haven't seen any since you moved civstats to a different IP.

Thanks for fixing the uploader timeout problem, and I'd be okay with requiring a mod load in any of my pitboss games, given the launcher that's been developed. Would it be all-or-nothing (i.e. if you have one player without the mod, no one has any functionality, or just that that player wouldn't have the functionality)?

Looks like you're right! I keep finding things that I forgot to update in the server transfer. I'll look in to this today.

If a player doesn't have the mod that the server is running, then the player wouldn't be able to log in to the server at all (I think.) All of the stats stuff is serverside code, and it's completely passive (well, until I implement the ability to control stuff on the website) so it doesn't do anything to the game, but rather just reads info from it. Really there's no need for players to have the code - the first thing is does is turn itself off if it detects that you're not the server. But players will need to have it to avoid the "game files differ" message. And if EVERYONE got that message, it would be very difficult to catch someone cheating, because there's no way to tell who has modified files beyond what they're supposed to.

We really love CivStats! We are Rasbora, game number 350 and big CivStats
fans. :)

After the CivStats server move, CivStats does not send any more e-mails and
if I try to change something in my player data, it says "Database error.".

Now and then scaring messages appear in the game log, most of the time
when someone has changed her/his player name:

5/9/07 12:46 pm Genghis Khan Converted to AI
5/9/07 12:46 pm Genghis Khan Logged out
5/9/07 12:46 pm Per Logged out

Noone has ever changed from AI to human or in the other direction,
so why these "converted to" messages?

Best regards,

For the database error, I've seen that and not sure what causes it. It happened sometimes before the server move as well. I am just going to put this in my "It will be fixed when I recode the site anyway" category.

As for the second problem... that is very strange. I'm not sure what's causing that. It sounds like the uploader is messing up. I'm curious about where it's getting the AI names at all if they're long gone. I recommend rebooting your game server to make sure there isn't a weird rogue version of the uploader running and screwing things up.

Is there a way to join a game directly from there?

I'm glad you asked! I have had this idea for quite some time. A link on the game page (or on the "My Games" page) that started my Pitboss Launcher and joined the game would be pretty cool! It could be done too - I could have the Pitboss Launcher register a protocol thingy like "civstats://" and just have an option where you can enter the civstats gameid in your launcher so it knows what profile goes to what game. Then if you clicked on the link, the uploader would start up, pick the appropriate profile based on what link you clicked, and join the game for you!

It would be fun to figure out how to do one of those protocol thingies so I'll probably do it. It's pretty low priority though as it's really a "just for fun" thing in my mind, unless I get a ton of people interested in it.

I'm most excited about 2.0. One feature that fits your general description for providing more feedback but you didn't specifically mention is the UN (and soon, the Apostolic Palace in BTS).

In pitboss games it would be great if you were alerted via email or an icon that there was a new vote, and even greater if you could cast that vote without logging in. The problem is that the person who owns the UN proposes the ballot when he logs in, so anybody that logged in before that player never gets a chance to vote.

As far as the mod being server side or for everyone.. I don't see a problem either way. Enough people play with Blue Marble or other innocuous mods that you have at least one "different version" per game, it seems. And personally I don't mind downloading a mod to play someone else's game if the mod is for a good reason (the 32 player game I'm in, for example).
