Also, about the other problems (database errors on settings change, new turn emails not being sent), I am sincerely sorry that it has taken so long to resolve these things. As someone mentioned above, I just moved to a new home and as most of you probably know, moving takes up a ton of time and energy! I can only get online at work currently so I haven't had much personal time to check on stuff like Civstats.

Also I just noticed that this thread is a sticky now! Yay!

No worries, can't hardly kvetch about a product that's being offered for free.

Which reminds me - if you were to post a paypal donation link on the civstats.com website, I think you'd get some beer money...

I've been getting the following error in the log file since about 8 pm MST:

6/19/2007 10:11:03 PM - Unable to connect to server: www.civstats.com - Windows API WSAGetLasterror: 10049

Of more concern is the fact that it seems to be killing the LAN connectivity on my PC after this goes on for a while. Exit/kill the uploader and voila, connectivity restored. Very strange.

Overload, do you anticipate being able to get civstats working for BeyondtheSword the same way you did for Warlords? And would you like a guinea pigbeta tester? I'm figuring on getting the game within a couple days of US release and assuming no newly-created BtS pitboss issues should have a BtS pitboss server going within a day or so of that.

I anticipate that it will work without needing any modification at all, actually, so yeah go for it!

I will be working on the version 2.0 rewrite which will improve support, but there's no reason to wait until that's done.

As long as you are continuing the development of this, a great new feature would be the ability of the host/server to mass e-mail all of the players. This would be very usefull in revealing server status.

Has anyone suspected that civstats uploader of making their system "act weird"? I used to be running two civ pitboss games on the same win2k system and about every other week, their windows would go in to a weird state where the dialog would fill the whole screen but not be drawn right. It seemed like they lost their info about their window's frame and elements within it. I thought it might have been heat or an about-to-fail HDD, so I re-installed win2k on to a new HDD and moved the server to the basement where it's cooler. Then I ran in to the same issue after a week.

The only thing that was on there after the fresh install was civ + warlords, the civstats uploader, a no-ip.org utility and a teamspeak server. In an attempt to test things, I decided not to run the civstats uploader and I haven't had any issues for the past few weeks. ??? what? If it's the source of the issue, then I can learn to live without it, but does anyone else have any problems or advise about this?

Yes - I've noticed the exact same problem on my Pitboss server (Vanila Civ, XP Pro). Happens every two weeks or so after running the Uploader non-stop. You can fix it by simply terminating the uploader, and restarting it - things go back to normal then. I suspect a memory leak somewhere in the Uploader.

Did anyone ever get their turn e-mail notifications to work? I've been using the Uploader for 2 months now, and never saw that feature working yet?

Yes, it happens. Simply minimize the app and restore it and it fixes it (at least for me). It's most likely a problem with the scripting engine I am using. However, unless it's causing other programs to behave strangely, then it's no problem. Consider it a harmless bug.

There are also issues specific to running two copies of the uploader on one machine.

It's broken right now. I'll go put in a temporary fix.

GARRRRRGHGHGHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

I'm sorry, but I just had to get that out. This mail problem is unbelievably frustrating.

However, I have implemented a fix! Please tell me if you are now getting your new turn emails. Also, someone who runs a game please confirm that your uploader is working at all as there is a remote possibility that I completely broke the upload script.

I'm at work right now, but the Uploader seems to be working fine from here, since there is no warning on Civstats page.

I'm really hoping the fix will work - good job if it does, I won't know till later on in the day.

The uploaders in my games have all been continuing to work for the last few days, but email turn notifications doesn't appear to be working yet.

I am receiving email notifications now from one game that I use civstats for.

One thing I have noticed though ... there is one big mother of a question mark now replacing the picture of the civ leader during diplomacy.

Now that may have been because I upgraded to IE 7 but just thought I'd mention it.

What email account are you using? When did you start hosting your game?

The same account as I use here - warningu2 at cogeco dot ca

But the game that I am receiving email now for is the spirits of Daniapetu game and I am not the host for this ... sample below.

I figured they were from civstats since the person hosting this game doesn't want to enable the smtp service in the game itself.

My own games I don't use civstats for game notification unless the host doesn't use it. I enable the smtp service in my own games and it works flawlessly.

Subject: It's your turn! (Spirits of Daniapetu - BC-2520)

You are now welcome to take your turn in the Civ4 Pitboss game "Spirits of Daniapetu"!
Your turn will expire in 23 hours.

I'm going to try enabling smtp service and see if that works. Thanks.

That new turn notification is not the Civstats format, so your host must be using something different.

Hrm... I will look in to this more.

I think it is the 'native' pitboss app SMTP generator. Two games I'm in (one run by Elucidus, one by Whiplash) are sending turn emails with that format.

My workaround for the moment (until the e-mail issue is fixed) is using "PBNotify" application to send out automatic e-mails.
