Broadcaster and former Liberal MP Sir Clement Freud has died aged 84.

A statement from his family said Sir Clement had died on Wednesday evening at his London home.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the actress Jill Freud, five children and 17 grandchildren. His funeral will be held next week.

A grandson of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, Sir Clement had a varied career as a cookery expert, press columnist and radio game show contestant.

Renowned for his lugubrious expression and mournful voice, he was a regular panellist on the BBC's Just a Minute for more than 30 years.

My favourite Clement moment was on Just a Minute.

Someone called him out for repetition within 15 seconds of the end, when it turned out that it was a transitive of the verb, so Nicholas Parsons told him he'd be willing to give Clement the benefit of the doubt later.

Clement immediately rang the bell and goes "I want the benefit of the doubt now!

Reading the wiki article on him, I can safely say this guy had an amazing life.

MP, celebrity chef, married a woman who apparently was the inspiration for a character in the Narnia books, served in WW2 as Montgomery's aide, related to Sigmund Freud, rector to a couple of universities.

I could try to play a game of Mornington Crescent but the excessive Britishness would probably invoke a stroke or some other unpleasantness.
