Hi all.

Righ now I'm makin a C3C epic Monarch game with arabs (is the first time I experienced one expancionist civ and I am liking a lot).

My question:

I lead the tech advancing. Recently I discovered the steam engine which should alow appearing the coal resource in the map. Right now I have the complete world map and I can not find any tile with coal.
Is it possible the game generate a map without one resource (or more)?
Is it possible the steam engine do not disclose the coal?
Could it be just a bug?
(a foot note: I do not use any patch)

Thaks for your answers:

Furthermore, what map size are you playing on?

Seems, that the smaller the map is the more likely it is that a certain ressource might be missing.

@Commander Bello

Im playing a continental huge map. 2 big continents 4 civs in each and one small with 7 maya cities.
I should say that I cant be sure that the coal is not present, while I can see the entire map itself, but only the map of the other 8 civs... Im just dicovering the whole remaining with my navy.

Please tell me if it is possible one resourse not be available anywhere, 'cause I played several games before and that never hapened.

I've seen resources missing in games before, but never strategical ones..
Often, on very small maps (Tiny or smaller), there will be a couple of luxuries missing.

Here's a tip for you:
Download the Civ3 Multi-Tool (can be found in the Customization forums, under Utilities/Tools IIRC), and open a savegame with the Savegame Editor included in the package. Click on the "Map" tab, and you can see a detailed overview of the number of resources on the map (you can't see the locations, only the number of each resource) :)

Or you could wait 'till all other civs have that and then check diplomacy.

It should not be possible for no coal to exist. The game editor should represent 1.5 coal per player (assuming that you left the appearance ratio at 120). As Doc T. suggested, you could look after pressing CTRL-ALT-M. This will take away all improvements and the Fog-of-War.

Remember, coal can be (and is often) found in Jungle. It can be hard to spot it there as coal is black and jungle is dark green!

Thaks for your tip.
I checked the map using the Ctrl+Shift+M And it reveals some coal resources.
But I believe the PC took some turns after discover the steam engine to show it. Is it possible?
Now I found that my "friend" Xerxes have it and I'm beating him...

It is possible as resources dissappear and appear throughout the game. So there could have been no coal from the start and then one appeared a few turns after you got steam power.

You sure about this? I was under the impression that new resources only appeared if an old one was exhausted. This is why you sometimes get the "This resource is exhausted" "We discovered a new source of" messages in the same square.

As mrtm says but adding the fact that the locations may shift over the course of the game.

Raio: Although this should not happen, it is a bug that I have experienced. I do not remember what patch revision I was running when last I encountered this, but it does/did happen. Eventually the coal showed itself. Unfortunately it reduced my advantage of being at steam power first. I have experienced this twice that I can remember. Of course, if you are not running the latest patch, you should apply it.
