Help!!! Long time reader, first time poster

I discover Steam Power many turns ago but i can't find coal anywhere!!! I really need the Iron Clad to protect against bombardments and some RR would be nice. Anyting I can do????

It's rather hard to see. It's there somewhere, you just need to find it... :(

How many civilizations are you playing with? I discovered that the fewer the civs, the fewer the resources.

If memory serves, there is an editor setting that specifies how many of each resource will be generated per civilization. The default setting is one resource for each civ. Not to imply one in each civ's territory, but for example if there are 8 civs, then 8 of each resource will appear.

There is a command in the map section of the main menu that allows you to clear the map. It is easier to find resources when you do this. Look in jungles. The game seems to delight in coal in jungles (maybe correctly, I don't know, I always picture coal as being in hills, WV, etc) and it's real hard to see in jungles.

playing me + 4 civs. I gots a caravel sails all over the place with a settler and worker on board just trying to find some

I learned this trick here. Hit Control+Shift+M and you will clear the land of any improvements and cities. any land you can see will show the resources. It is most likely sitting in some other civ's land and they have irrigated the square with the coal or the oil -- which tells you that they don't know what they've got yet.

I agree that some of the resources can be difficult to see.. The Modpack section has some strategic resource label files that you can download. They put a "C" next to the coal icon, and "U" next to uranium...

There should be a way to HIGHLIGHT coal; to make it jump out at you. Right now, I waste a lot of time searching for it, and even then I'm not sure. Another game flaw.

As for the amount of coal tiles, go to the Editor and increase the
frequency of it. I have.

Not only is CTRL SHIFT M the way to go, it also lets you see the resources directly under cities. I make a point of surveying the map with all the improvements/cities/units toggled off every time I discover tech tied to a resource.
