I like to make ambitious maps and scenarios that only require BTS as is. It's a challenge for me, and it makes end results that are accessible for new and casual players. So, I'm going to take the next step after adapting my Earth map into a Cold War setup where everyone starts in the Stone Age, and make a fully-fledged Scenario.

I like my projects to focus on drawing players in, not necessarily focussing on strict historical and geographical accuracy so much as using those factors as a base for 'flavour'. I'll be taking an Archer-style approach to the Cold War, with no fear of adding anachronistic elements that simply work. So, whilst we're starting somewhere in the 1950s, there'll be stuff that was built way later, and national formations that didn't exist back then.

So, then. How to represent a somewhat romanticised Cold War with only eighteen factions?

First up, identifying the major Capitalist economies and giving them at least one Corporation Headquarters. Plus, a good smattering of Customs Houses; this pushes the AI to keep away from State Property and go for Free Market's extra Trade Routes.

Secondly, Red economies should be utterly infested with foreign Corporations and have plenty of Watermills and Workshops. This pushes the AI to favour State Property, and represents how a lot of nominally Red economies were not os much gravitating towards the USSR's Marxist rhetoric but rather trying to do something about transnational corporations that were perceived as bringing more harm than benefit. It also gives the USA and her allies reasons to put pressure on others to adopt Free Market.

Finally, getting an idea of how the various factions should think about one another, and giving them a bunch of preset Diplomatic backgrounds, generous cash exports (representing post-war rebuilding loans and subsidised development), and vassal/pact agreements. I'll stick to voluntary vassalage, not permanent, as I want the old Colonial powers to start with a load of Empires and then lose them whilst the USSR (without a hint of self-awareness or irony) preaches national liberation.

I'm thinking about this as my roster:

I might move Canada into NATO, Mexico into the Andean Pact, and make Cuba an independent nation.

First task is to get it clear who's who, and build a map that'll fit everything in. I'm thinking a Large Terra map; bigger than that, it seems to all get bogged down.

Any opening feedback?
