I'm not even going to pretend. This is almost completely to brag that I got into Cornell and I really want to enroll if finacial things work out. But we can salvage a topic out of it.

This is the time when high school seniors recieve acceptances and I thought we could talk about it. I got into UMass Amherst, Boston University, Johns Hopkins University, Carnegie Mellon University and of course Cornell. I was rejected by Princeton and Columbia. So I guess I'm not Yom, but I am happy anyway. Personally I would have gone to Princeton if accepted because they have the best financial aid program in the country and I really need it. But Cornell is dedicated to 100% demonstrated need, so I'll definitely be covered, I'll just have more in loans. I expect to have around 3000 to 7000 in loans per year which is manageable and I expect almost all my other colleges to be around there as well.

So tell me about your acceptances or your college experience if you want.

Well, I applied to 5 schools as a freshman. One as a "safety school" and several as afterthoughts. One of those afterthoughts was Duke, the only one who rejected my application as a freshman. The other was Notre Dame. One day, out of the blue as I came home from school my mom came running out of the house quoting the movie Rudy and telling me that they had (randomly it seems) given me a great aid package, so I could go there. My mom was very enthusiastic the whole way but I don't think she got the result she was hoping for . . . (she is Catholic, I am Mormon)

I was completely incompetent in applying for undergrad but I somehow got lucky... I applied to four schools, and one of them randomly gave me a full scholarship. So I went there.

This year I'm applying for grad schools. Applied to seven schools. So far I've been accepted into one, rejected by two and I'm still waiting to hear from the other four.

Well, I am just starting to look at colleges, and so far my top 5 looks like:

1. University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill
2. University of Virginia - Charlottesville
3. Vanderbilt University - Nashville
4. Princeton University - Princeton
5. Boston University - Boston
Honorable Mention: Bucknell University, College of William and Mary, New York University, Northwestern University, University of Pennsylvania, Washington University in St. Louis.

If I could somehow manage to get into all 5, I think I'd go to number 4, but most likely, I can see myself into getting into everything but Princeton at this point.

I only applied for the University of Florida. My heart bleeds Orange and Blue. I graduated in May '06 and my heart is still in Gainesville. In fact I am heading there tomorrow and then to Atlanta for the Final Four.

Oh lord, another football school thinking they can play basketball. :p

I will too, but only if Florida wins.

I applied to..

American University
THE Ohio State University
Case Western Reserve University
Miami Ohio
BYU

I got in everywhere...fell in love with Washington DC, went to American. Had a lot of crap happen to me after my freshman year (death of Father, knee surgery, mother with cancer)...so I spent some time at OSU.

I *should* be attending American this fall.

Alcosta, i'm warning you, if you go to Bucknell, I'll never talk to you again.

Congrats to all you smart guys! It's obvious I'm the dumbarse athlete around here since I went to Univ. of Arizona to play baseball. To think I'm engaged to a Berkeley/Columbia grad. Go figure.

If it's a bragging thread, I was 2-for-2 at getting into schools I applied to. The other was Worcester Polytech.

I guess in that sense, you're way ahead of what any of us can say...

:)

I applied to mostly small private schools such as:

Juniata College (in Pennsylvania)
Maryville College (in Tennessee)
Bridgewater College (in Virginia)
Frostburg University (in Maryland)

Incidentally Bridgewater College, although my 3rd choice, is where I am now. I went where the most scholarships were. Turns out, I am perfectly happy here and they have an excellent Biology/Chemistry department. :)

I hate Bucknell, but why do you say that?

American hates Bucknell. Deep down, I think we're jealous that they are a good school and have decent sports. However, their girls are ugly, and its in the middle of nowhere...so we win!

Is that the international students application is much more difficult than domestic ones? I tried but all rejected.

I don't know if its harder...but i do know its harder to get money.

Bucknell stomps American in the Patriot League.

Every. Single. Game.

We did kick their ass in Volleyball!!

Man, their fans are annoying. They all brought these stupid balloons that they'd hit together the whole damn match. Plus, there were more of them than there were of us...so that was kind of sad.

But yeah, they own us in basketball. Either them or Holy Cross eliminates us each year.

Probably; what schools did you apply to?

Many public schools try to get as many local students as possible (makes sense), so it's tougher for out-of-staters or, in your case, out-of-countryers.

Frostburg State isn't a private school. Oddly enough, it's one of the schools I applied to for undergrad, I got accepted, and someone I knew who works there told me that the admissions office was astounded by my SAT scores...
