Colonialist Legacies: Histories of the New World | Colonial + Pre-Colonial civs

Besides, Zimbabwe didnt really build many wonders. Great Zimbabwe itself was incredible, but there are plenty of civs more rightly revered as monument builders.

I actually disagree. Among pre-colonial civs, I'd say they're a really great choice for Wonder building. I think it deserves to be highlighted. The fact that black Africans built Great Zimbabwe was suppressed by colonials because they didn't want people to know that natives could do that.

While there are certainly more 'wondorous' civs out there, I think we should highlight this aspect of Zimbabwe. It's very cool, and regionally unique.

Im not sure i agree with making Zimbabwes focus 'wonders' just because they were better than their contemporaries. Not because i dont think its interesting, just because generally a civ is supposed to embody the things which they historically excelled at. Zimbabwe was better than most countries in terms of her trade links, and sent Portugal packing, which means she was also better than most countries at defensive warfare.

Id rather focus on the stuff that Zimbabwe did better than anyone, stuff that made her a head and shoulders above the world, not just her neighbours, than focus on her ability to build wonders 'because other Africans didnt do it'.

Fair enough, I honestly mostly agree with your perspective, I just don't want to do yet not another CL trade civ.

I can sympathise with that. I think a focus on a big, developed capital, not necessairily with wonders. Just lots of buildings and population, perhaps.

Yeah, what you are describing, that the colonizers discredited the Africans for having made something extraordinary, was quite a common thing.
Aside from Great Zimbabwe you had for instance the sculptures of Ife and the defensive forts of the Somalians that were also 'supposedly' made by outside forces.

I'm sorry, but I have to absolutely, unequivocally disagree. None of which you describe were build by Zimbabweans, nor Ife...ans, nor Somalians. They were clearly built by outside forces.

So Zimbabwe should obviously have a wonder production bonus only when Beyond Earth is running in the background :p
