Feeling like a noob having to re-learn all this, so please bear with me.

I know that LHs in BTS are generally unsafe to use in Colonization. If I remember, it's because of something to do with shaders. And maybe there was something about animations too. Not sure. The brain goes stale if left in the container too long.

Is there a list of which models are safe to use in Colonization? I know any derived from BTS are right out, but are Warlords LHs OK?

I know not to use any of the files associated with the Civ version LHs, that's kind of a no brainer.

I know the same probably holds true with units. I remember crashing the game A LOT figuring that out.

I don't remember having a problem adding any LH. I download ones uploaded by modders and them put them in my mod no problems... I think. Custom Units on the other hand have to be "converted" as I call it. A good tutorial is here http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=317419.

Also, I discovered on my own how to get most custom units into the game. Its a pain but it works most times. The simple of it is, I Import the Custom unit into Blender, right click the unit (very important step), then Export it. Then, Its always good also to, with nifscope, copy and paste the unit into a known working similar units nif, fix the team color as in the tutorial above, then your good to go.

Thanks for clearing that up, Kailric. That's the problem with picking things up again after four years. The memory blurs two things together.

I was just working on the Jesuits and was about to lose my mind because the LH I'd chosen kept crashing the game. I went crawling line-by-line through the files until only the LH was left as the source of the crash. As I was crawling through the file in NIFScope and discovered that the problem was that the maker of the LH had set the link for the texture to a directory on his hard drive... complete with

Code:
 C:\Documents and Settings\etc...

It was easily fixed, then it worked like a charm.

The New Scotland file though.... I still have no idea why that one pukes.

I'll figure it out eventually.

Another common problem I've come across is when a unit imported from Civ4 or another mod refers to DDS files kept in /Assets/Art/Shared folder from the other mod or Civ4. I ended up copying most of that folder from Final Frontier into an /Assets/Art/Shared folder in the 2071 mod which solved a lot of problems. Some units also have special effects associated with their KFM animations which are kept in Art/Effects, make sure to bring those over as well.
