Colors n Chrome Interface Modpack for Civ III

Yup, we modders are in the same boot! :D

Telgar, you are a gfx guru as I see. I wanna make a new forest type for FE 2.0, to replace the jungle.
Maybe you can help?

Any type of forest? Dense trees or Sparse trees? What about color of forest? Varied shades of green or some brown thrown in? :)

I might be able to help with that. I will at least give it a shot.

P.S. Which .pcx files are you replacing.....jungle.pcx? I guess you would have to do mountain jungle.pcx and hill jungle.pcx too. I couldn't find my jungle.pcx file although its there somewhere cause when I play Civ III there sure is alot of jungle. :)

There was a slight pallette problem with the new city screen. The problem was the food and shield icons would not popup till you moved your mouse over them. GIDustin has been kind enough to help me correct the pallette problem. I am posting a new .pcx file for the city screen. I apologize for any inconvience. You may download the new fixed city screen here:

Thx Telgar! Well first we should update the grassland forests.pcx.
We can replace the jungle there.
The question is, that what kind of forest...hmmmmm...
What about swamp? Or evil/magical forest?

I really dont know...What do you think?
 
Hey Balrog,

Im working on a new forest for you. Should have it finished pretty soon. What I went with is a more colorful realistic forest. Im having a pallette problem. GIDustin is fixing it for me. When he sends the fixed file back, I will finish it pretty quick. Then I will post it. For now, if you want to see what Im doing, here is a link to the UNFINISHED file.

This file won't show correctly in the game till the pallette problem is corrected. Heck, Im not even sure what it is going to look like. I will edit it when the problem is fixed.

Hi Balrog, :)

Im glad you think it's looking good. I have been messing with this thing for awhile now, and still am not satisfied with it. It was going pretty good, then I found I had trees in the ocean. :cry: I edited most of that, but it is not exactly how I would like it to be. This has been more time consuming then I thought. Now that I have gotten this far though, I think I know what Im doing, and if I started again from scratch could probably make it better. However, Im not sure I want to do that. :lol: I want you to take a look at it, put it in the game, check it with a couple of maps, because it changes from map to map. Tell me what you think about it. Then we can go from there. :)

NOTE: What forest are you using with this? I made this from Snoopys Jungle/Forest pcx file. That means you have my forest (replaced Snoopys Jungle) and Snoopys Forest. If you plan on using something else, I need the pcx file so I can copy and paste to it.

I just don't know about them red trees, I like em, but Im not sure. Just think of it as the Magical Red Forest. ;)

P.S. You owe me a big bowl of Hungarian Goulash! heehee :p

Decent work Telgar!
The new forest is damn good! Tiny problems are:

-Try to play around with the editor, placing jungle. Sometimes the bottom or the top of some tiles are disappearing, when placing down new jungle tiles.

-Yup sometimes theres a tree in the water. :D

-Can you make the 'main tiles [the big forest tiles]' a little more 3D? I mean if you check the gfx, all of the trees in the main tiles are like they are placed on a line. S I meant on '3D' that cut out some edges, etc. I hope you know, what I mean on '3D' now. :)


Otherwise the graphics is really good, hats off. :goodjob:
And yes, if you will come over here, I will show you the best Goulash in Hungary! :) [My mother is making the best goulash, trust me! :cool:]


Ps. You will be credited in the v2.1 of course. You want me to put in your email addy as well?

Hey Balrog,

Yeah there are some small problems. Your right it could be more 3D. I could have moved a couple of those tall trees that are lined up in the back into the center for depth. As for the missing bottom or tops of tiles, I think it is because I didn't locate my graphics in the exact same spot as the original. I went out of the boundary of the original, thinking it didn't matter as long as I was in that pink square. That's the reason the trees are in the water too. I want to redo the whole thing again. I can make it better. More 3D like you suggested and get rid of the trees in the water and tiles cut off. Are you in a hurry for this? I could have the new one done in oh say the next 2 to 3 days. Now that I have messed with it, I feel I can do a better job of it. I figure I can also post the forest for download here at CivFanatics too, so others can see the work. I would have to redo it again I suppose to do that. :lol:
Because I would have to conform to the original forest and not the jungle. But at any rate, I plan to create a new jungle too along with the new forest and post it. Might as well. Might be good. :) So let me know what you think. I could just redo it. Im glad you liked what has been done so far, thanks for the compliment. :p

NOTE: Also what grassland forests.pcx file are you using? The original one that came with Civ III or something else? Was the one I used ok? Did you like the red trees, should we keep them? Oh and I guess you can include my email.

P.S. I bet your mom makes great Goulash. My tummy is rumbling already! Gimme Goulash! :D

Ok Balrog,

I looked at the file again to try something out. This is what I think: The reason why some tiles are being cut off and why there are trees in the water (although I edited most, cause it was much worse) is because I need to keep the EXACT shape and locations of the original tiles. I think these tiles are made to interlock. This means I need to redo the whole thing. As far as the tile being more 3D when you open the file in a graphics program and look at it. I don't believe it matters much. Although it might look 2D there, when you run it in the game, it becomes 3D. It's such a tiny area to work on, It would be difficult to achieve any real 3D in that square. Now, having said that I will be redoing it again, unless you are satisfied with what I have sent you. O.K. me gone........up up and away!!! :p

Well if you can make it 'more 3 dimensional' that would be awesome! If you feel that you can make it even better just go ahead.

Also we arent in a hurry, so you can make it slowly. ->

v2.1 will contain lot of new stuff. I wanna implent your new forest, Kinboat is making spell effects! [that will take time to make] So it will take a while to finish it.
[I already implented the dwarves, with a new special resource: Dwarven Stronghold. ;) Also the archer units [archer, longbowman, crossbowman, fire longbowman] are bombard units from now on. I fixed some tiny errors as well.:king:
 
Sounds just lovely Balrog! Im glad you said take your time heehee, I could use it. :) Sometimes I just get lazy and nothing gets done. Anyways ok, send me a link with that greener Snoopys grassland forests.pcx and I will see if I wanna fix her up.

I think Telg is making the new forest gfx now.
Lets hope that he will have time to finish the Chrome pack as well! Cant wait for that one also! :)
 
Hey Telgar any news? Kinboat made the spell effects already, so I could release the new FE patch very soon. Any chance that the new forest will be ready in these days?
