Combat - not allowed?

When trying to attack an enemy town I get a red, rotating circle and I can't move my troupes into that space. What gives?

Perhaps you're trying to attack with siege units and have BTS; in BTS, siege units have a cap on the quantity of damage they can inflict.

Or you are at Peace and "Can not declare war" because of previous diplo agreement, in which case you will need to wait 10 turns (or less, if some already passed) for the agreement to wear off.

Some units (like machine gun) can only defend. Most units can also only attack once per turn even if they have several movement points.

That must have been it, but I thought I had waited 10 turns already. Perhaps my math is off

If you have a stack of mutliple units you have to be careful. If you have knights and macemen and have moved one square the macemen cannot attack, but the knights can. If all units are selected, you will get a red cirlce. Make sure your units have enough movement points. As well, make sure there is not a worker or scout in your group. If you just captured a worker and are moving him with your combat group, and have all units sellected will get a red circle because worker cannot attack.

BtS occasionally seems to not let you attack with a stack if one unit has had its turn unless you manually deselect that unit from the stack, generally if you've done something else since using that unit.
