so if anyone reads my posts they can probably tell im very interested in the military
aspect of civ iv/bts. even though civ iv is not necessarily just a 'war' game.
make no mistake i <3 every other part of the civilization experience
(city happiness, using the land to your advantage, etc. there's all kinds of factors
there)
but while i work on my own altered bts combat system, i notice two different
very good concepts from two of the popular mods
that is the 'combat aid system' from the lovely but incapable of playing thru on my
current 32-bit computer Realism Invictus,
and the 'surround and destroy' aspect from the Caveman-to-Cosmos mod
(which actually dates back to the old Avalon Hill hex map board games that i notice
seem to be nowhere in PC game world)
so i would like very much to join these and my own ideas i've already come up
with into one mod system.
what does anyone else think about this? is there any point to my post?

i would love to, vincentz : )
unfortunately just now i have no python or sdk skills :)
only xml.
but i would like to combine the 'aid' system, 'surround and destroy' system,
and my own 'true ranged attack' system into one package
maybe i need to find a modding partner with more programming skill? :)

In my experience, if you want something done, you have to do it yourself. There is nobody motivated enough to make your vision a reality other than yourself.

Learning programming isn't that hard, but: start small. Start by tweaking little aspects of the things you're interested in. You will learn in the meantime and stay motivated :)

To expand a little on Leoreth's post:

Unless someone who is working on something very similar, they will not do it. As a side note, there's a reason programmers/software engineers are very highly paid.

Also, this is a legacy game (with its last sparks of life being likely to die out some time after Beyond Earth's expansions).... people move on.... including the mod developers.

hey. thank you much for the replies/advice :)
yes i had thought of those things, ~ civ iv has been around quite a while now,
not to mention civ v.
well i don't want to find somebody to do all my work for me for free,
as much for them to share (at least) equal credit for a mod project.
it would probably be more like me asking key questions more than making them
spend long hours programming it themself.
i do very much know how the 'do it yourself' thing works :)
and that can be a good thing :) but it can be quite difficult to build the
ideal mod that way, without heavy compromising : )
i thought maybe it would like two or more modders coming together to make
a great mod rather than struggle with 'moderate' ones on their collective own :)
like my idea of different calculated combats by attacking from a certain terrain
or feature to another :) (the unit attacking hill to plain gets an attack bonus)
that sort of thing. no idea how to do that myself with xml, but i have already
lowered all flatland defense, which sort of tampered with the city defenses i think
thanks for the advice : ) and i'll definately keep taking my 'baby steps' :)
even if its on an outdated civ iv mod that nobody will remember by the time
anything is done :) hehe
