This is a thread for you to discuss whether we should trade our Communications. As you know that the galley in the next turn will come into contact with a dark blue Civilization, which is most likely going to be Germany. Our possible options. Everything that we do will include get their WM for as little cost to us.

Don't trade our communications.
Get as many communications with as few as possible from us.
Try and use technology to get communications. Which ones will be left for discussion.
Abstain.
If more do come up, then they will be added in due course.

Regards, Classic. Your Trade Deputy.

My thought is that we should not trade away any communications until we have a better idea about the likelyhood of someone bridging the gap between the continents. We should get Babylon's WM first as they have GLH and the possibility of having discovered more sea lanes. If Bab looks like they might get across then go ahead and trade away our contacts.

If not, then try to get contacts from the 1st Civ we meet. A contact is more important than WM as we can get WM from the 2nd civ. Ideal would be to get one contact and WM from first civ and then get contacts from the rest of the civs.

I'd also say it is ok to trade away any tech (including Chivarly) to other continent civs as long as we get a good trade and thy won't be trading it back to our continent.

Thanks for putting this up. It'll serve for now, but later on, we'll activate "Trade $2- Swindling Out Our Neighbors For Fun And Profit" when we actually meet said neighbors.

I am putting in a request for a 1 turn chat to make contact w/ the Germans

Edited for content.

aww... why'd you have to go kill my fun?
that kills the whole joke..

I think we should trade all the techs we can and also try to get their WM without giving ours.
We should ofcourse get as many contacts as possible BUT we should not trade OUR contacts in order to keep our neighbours isolated as long as possible.

I agree that we shouldn't sell contacts. We might be able to contact other civilizations easily enough, but buying contacts would be fine. If we sell something to one civ, we should sell it to rest of the civs on that continent.

No way !!!
"The others" are apparently only reachable by sea. That means that "our continents sharers" will not meet them till a couple of centuries. We have the perfect situation, if we never trade contacts till then. I am also agaisnt showing our WM, although I am eager to get theirs.

Selling contacts is dishonoring our sailors who have risked their lives to meet "the others" only to see their lives being devaluated by the government to mere cash. They are worth more!

Japanatica can do better !!

Well, if we are about to dominate our own Continent, then why in the world would we give these guys references to "people who don't exist"?

Right now, the Romans are all but extinct.

French (distance) and perhaps Babs (if we don't strike them quickly, GLight)... possibly... but not at first.

I'd sooner trade Feudalism before Contacts. (Not Chivilry, though.)

Also, I'd devote as much as Lump Sum as 100 Gold (perhaps more if needed and we still have it), and perhaps as much as 5 GPT for Contacts...

I believe it is under my power as MoT to get this done...
Do I need a poll?
And yeah, dont sell our contacts to anyone. We'll buy their contacts (or sail around and get them ourselves), but Shaka, Joan, Hammi and Hamurabi must not know of them!

So it has been written, so it shall be done.

Has anyone thought about territory map trades? We could wait a bit until we attack the Iroquois, netting us more land to trade territory maps with.

Also, let's take a strategic look at who's on the other continent:

Germany - Late Industrial UU

Not a threat right now, but could potentially be one by game's end.

Russia - Late Middle Ages UU

Don't know how big they are yet, but could be a far immediate threat.

India - Early Middle Ages UU

They probably have them right now, but they're stuck with them on that continent. Plus, they're peaceful (usually). Not much of a threat.

Aztecs - Early UU

Their UU isn't a threat anymore, but they've been quite respectable civs in the history of the demogame.

There's a couple of unknown civs of course. One thing we can still do is sail around their continent and meet civs. We can also trade territory maps FOR contacts (i.e., we get them, not them), and hopefully get a world map out of someone.

BTW, if any one of those civs on the other continent demands contact, and declares war, I don't think we'd need to stop the chat. It'd be a LONG swim! ;)

i would watch out for russia they are on my list of civs to always hate
my list includes, russia, england, babylon
whenever in my game it seems one of those are the ones that betray me....

England's usually (almost) dead by the time I meet them. Same for the Byzantines in C3C.

This is one reason why I am a bit annoyed with Science ATM. We could have a much clearer Idea about what we have available to us. We could have already had our plans ready for what we want to acheive in our field of science. The picture would have been clearer for us to discuss our options better. It does look like that we will have a 1 turn chat.
