Comp can't find CD. Pre-install

I just received the game and my computer can't even tell that there's a CD in the drive. I don't even see the CD to have the opportunity to install the game, let alone have any other of the myriad install issues I've read about. It begings to spin up, then beeps. Does this 3 times and then nothing. It's as if there's no CD in the drive. The only solution I've seen posted is "use a different drive."

I'm using the DVD-RW that came with my laptop (<1 year old). I have no other drive to use. The CD did load the initial auto-load screen on my parents desktop so I know it's an issue with my comp, not the CD. Am I completely out of luck? Is there any recompence with 2kgames. I'm not using, nor have I ever used, any disk imaging software, so I can't see that being the issue.

Try playing with disc 1 instead of disc 2. I had to do that.

Check with the manufacturer of the DVD drive for a firmware update. Some drives have the problem you described because they are incompatible with the game's copyright protection. Others have solved this problem by updating the drive's firmware.
