So I know it is hard to compare two buildings when we haven't been able to play as either civ but Assyria's building seems to always be greater to the ducal stables of Poland.
To quote from the what we know thread.
Royal Library; Library replacement; +1 Science for every citizen; extra XP to combat units if their masterpiece slot is filled.

Ducal Stable; Stable replacement; 15% Production; 15xp for Mounted Units; +1 Gold and Production on Pastures
So the stables have been highly talked about mainly for the +15xp for mounted units making it possible to have highly elite mounted units out of the gate which synergies well with their UU. But the Royal Library gives xp to every unit not just mounted. Which means that all of their units will start out super strong: melee, gun, naval, air, and probably even mounted units.
Plus the +1 gold and production on pastures is good but at must you will probably have 3 or so pastures in one city. The royal library has an extra slot for great works which give more culture or tourism.
The ducal stable also has the requirement of a pasture(meaning it may end up where you can't build one) while the library just needs a great work. You probably wont get a great work for every library but you must likely will be able to fill your high production cities with filled libraries.
So my question is why is the library so much more powerful then the stables? Maybe its not because they removed the extra food from the stables but I can't see why they would need to weaken it but not the library of Assyria.

Well, the Ducal Stable might start working earlier (how many great work slots are you going to have early on?). It also depends on the amount of experience the Royal Library gives you.

I thought it was 15 xp for the royal library too. But still even if it wasn't I still think xp for all units even if it is not a promotion is still better then upgrade to only one class of units. From some of the videos showing great works it seemed possible to get one relatively early(around the same time Poland would research and build a ducal stables) Even if Assyria does not focus on early culture they will be able to easily steal a great work from their nearest civ.

filling the slot is not going to be easy in the early game though. Horses and cows are easier to find in the early game than great works of literature, or whatever they're called.

They fit completely different play styles as well, so I'm not sure it makes that much sense to compare them 1v1 like that anyway.

I think you underestimate the gold bonus. Remember, in BNW there will be no +1 gold from river tiles, etc, so gold should be a lot more rare outside of trade routes. With the bonus exp to mounted units and the apparently excellent UU, you probably would do well to grab as more horses than you normally would allowing you to get some bonus gold on the side.

You know that's right I wasn't thinking about that. Early gold and early production is very important but later game it seems like the military edge goes to Assyria. The Stables does still have the great synergy between it and the winged hussar too.

Assyria is a middle eastern civ. Political correctness dictates that middle eastern civs must at all times be better than european civs.

Hello? Does anyone know if it's a 15% production bonus overall or just for mounted units? I realize how OP it seems but anywhere I read it's formulated as being an overall production bonus.

I thought it was just for mounted units at first but I think the stables give a higher value for mounted units. It may be for everything sort of how Austria's coffee house gives less for buildings then a windmill but it can be used for everything. If that is the case then the stables are certainly stronger then I originally gave them credit for.

I think it's very hard to compare it when the XP is not yet out.;)

Why? You cant read? :)

Because without the fact and experience, it's hard to know for sure. Many variables not known to the public due to lack of experience, like unknown features added or synergies, can influence the outcome.:)

Also, no need to troll me.;)

Hehe, sorry. :)
We do have all (99%?) of the facts though. But yea, there might be some synergies we don't know about yet, but over all; we do know enough to start making strategies or at least discuss it in the forum. IMHO.

It's Assyria's UA that I'd be worried about. Their UU makes it even more OP of course... It helps in capturing cities, and they get a FREE TECH with EVERY captured city! Say WUT now?! It's totally crazy... As with more cities and tech it's easier to capture more cities and tech, etc. At the hands of the AI I predict Assyria will be the grand behemoth of all time. Good luck with your game if they're on another continent and go warmongering. Your Caravels will likely be sank by weirdly bearded stealth bombers.

As for the UBs: no great writer slot in libraries? They dropped the ball on that one imo. Hard to say how powerful it is without actually playing, although it's clear that Assyria does not need any more power. Hell, they'd still be top tier even without any UB, and that's saying something.

Keep in mind that it's not a free tech, it's steal a tech. If they don't have anything you don't have, you don't get anything.
