Completely unique units

So I'm writing a mod and one of the features is that ALL the units are unique to the different civs (species). This should make the game a bit less dull and more enjoyable. Either way, is there a way to define a unit belonging to a certain civilization without having a base unit and then defining a unique unit from it? Basically, I want it to say "Unique Unit for Lions" without the "(Replaces GENERIC_HUNTER)" or whatever. Can you put "NONE" for what unit it replaces to do this?
 
One option is to give each civ a unique, untradable, unresearchable tech. Make that tech an "AND" prerequisite for each of the civ's units.
 
Hmm. Good idea. Can you remove that tech from the tech tree to make it more or less invisible?
 
Oh. I see now. You know I looked at that before but I didn't know you could put "NONE" in for "default unit". Thus I didn't do it because "Bear Forager (Replaces Lion Huntress)" would look really dumb.
