Computer Crashes

When I play civ3 conquests or civ4, the computer randomly turns off without notice...

Note- it crashes only when I play a game, not surf the internet...

Hmmm this has happened to a friend of mine when he plays NBA2005 in demo mode There are no screen artifcates, no Blue screen just the machine turning itself off.

I suspect it could be a heat problem for the cpu. Thou CPU overheating normally results in the PC hanging ditto with the VC.

lack of power cant be the problem as GTA seems to run fine.

It definitely sounds like the cpu is overheating. Games require the cpu to work a lot harder than for internet apps, so it chucks out more heat.

Check the cpu's heatsink for dust. There is probably a thick layer of it acting as insulation - not good.

I think chkdsk fixed the problem for me...
