Computer restarting

-Error in title, should read 'Computer Shutdown' not 'Computer Restarting'

Hi, first time Civ player here.

Today I got Civ IV, installation went fine. I can play the game fine...for several minutes. Before my laptop randomly turns itself off. I've installed the latest patch and that didn't change anything.

The specs of the laptop

Acer

2.0ghz Intel Pentium Centrino
512 mb ddr ram
ATI mobility radeon x600 PCI express.

Any help would be much appreciated.

It's likely the ATI card. ATI + Civ IV = bad mojo.

You can try updating driver and such, has worked for some people, but not me.

Well, I updated my driver through windows. Simply going onto hardware and clicking 'update driver' but it had no effect.

I'd suggest heading here and downloading them. I never trust Windows automatic updates, as I know I've hit that button when my drivers were out of date, and it didn't find anything.

Well updating the drivers didn't change anything.

I'm close to giving up.
