When I start a single player game the loading screen conintues until it reaches "DONE" and then it waits for about 15 minutes... the cursor stops spinning... and the computer restarts.

I had a ton of trouble trying to start this thing up
I had to re-register a bunch of files (or something like that) in order to get DirectX to install...
I just reinstalled CIV4 and I got as far as the "start single player game"

also.. after trying tthis a few times I realized that it gets to the autosave... because the autosaves are in their appropriate folder... but when i try to load them the same thing happens

That is a windows setting. When your computer just restarts for no real good reason, it typically means a BSOD was just averted. I guess Bill got sick of all the BSOD jokes. You can prevent this from happening by Settings / Control Panel / System / Advanced / Startup and Recovery / Settings. Make sure the box is UNCHECKED where it says "Automatically Restart" under System Failure." Then when you get the BSOD write all that crap down and start googling it.

I would check your event log for errors.

I would also recommend that you test your memory with a free program like www.memtest86.com, memory goes bad way more often people think.

Good luck.

Try to run the CIV4 in windowed mode (non-fullscreen mode). This can be turned on from the advanced options.

Ok. I made it so that it doesnt auto-restart when I get a BSOD

heres what my Blue screen of death had to say:

"Problem caused by file: Nv4_disp
Nv4_disp begging dump of physical memory"

so I figure its a memory issue
I dont have the patches on here. putting them on would probably help... but when I try to extract the file using WinRAR I get this message "! C:\Documents and Settings\Ryan\Desktop\Civ4Patch152.zip: Unexpected end of archive"
