Obviously bad RNG there :)

I played another 4 turns from Ankka's save and rectified the situation.

We took Antioch back, peace with England for 82g and 1 gpt, peace and MapMaking from Babs for 8 gpt.

And yeah, a leader! Are we interested in armies?

Are we interested to continue from this save?

If we do, I suggest denyd play 16 turns to even it out...it will mainly be another buildup phase.

Save the Peace

Gozpel@ just play another 6 and I'l pick it up from there, no problem

It's pretty sad to think this all started for 37g - We should be able to get peace with England & Babylon in a couple of turns (edit: missed the peace bit from Gozpel's post) and then rebuild our Immortal troups. It's too bad we're wasting our GA in a defensive campaign, but such is life. If we wanted easy, we'd be playing Regent :D

Once we're at peace it might be wise to disconnect the iron and pump out as many warriors as possible during the GA.

Again sorry for the blackout, I always cave in when the AI demand stuff. I just clicked "get lost-button" and as I said, I never replay turns. But yikes, this is deity...

I play those remaining 6 turns then.

What are we going with that leader?

Considering it might be a while before we get another (?? turns of peace treaty left) is there a wonder available?

We probably don't have enough cities for FP.

If no wonders & no FP, then save him until we are about to go to war again. Then we'll have to make the army/wonder decision.

Don't sweat the war with England, it was going to happen anyway, just a little later. The only thing we need to be sure of is taking England & Babylon out before they get muskets. Immortals vs Muskets is not a pretty sight. Once those 2 are gone Spain will fall easily and we'll have the island all to ourselves.

It's ok. The Game is more fun now knowing that we have to work harder to win it.

Yes, the RNG was really bad, for instance, I lost an Immortal to a warrior when attacking... and the Babs won all attacks to Pasargadae with bowmen against immortals...:(

Well, seems like you were able to fix my mistakes. Thanks, I feel better now. :)

The Save

No turnlog this time. The first 4 turns I killed 7-8 English units and 4-5 Babs and losing 2 Immortals. This made Lizzy weaker and she agreed to peace for around 100g. Babs would take peace straight up after that, but I thought we needed something more, so I paid 8 gpt as well for MapMaking. We need to find the other civs as soon as possible.

I tried earlier to involve Spain in the war, but not even 22 gpt was interesting.

The leader hurried the Great Lighthouse in Arbela and I poprushed a galley. People was quite unhappy and I sent all workers to chop near Susa and then rushed a temple. We will have silks online in 4 turns. A worker from Arbela will start roading to incense next turn.

Our mighty military contains of 3 spearmen, 11 warriors and 14 immortals. I didn't disconnect the iron yet, you can do that denyd. Canterbury got iron as well.

We won't be able to afford a huge military tho (we can save some gpt by joining our native workers in Canterbury and Antioch though?) We have a couple of slaves wandering through Babylon, so we might be able to improve lands with slaves only.

We need temples in Canterbury, Arbela and Antioch. But galleys too, and only Arbela is good enough for them.

A lone scientist is set to Literature (34t), which we won't get I guess.

We have 99g and do 16 gpt atm, but that will change when the GA ends.

From just looking at the map, my proposal would be to disconnect the iron, spend the next 15 turns building veteran warriors (and a culture building for each city), run science at a minimum and then upgrade those warriors to immortals and start acquiring some of those red cities to the south. By the time the peace treaty has ended, we should have around 30 immortals and Babylon's Golden Age should be over. After we attack, we should give England a little stipend to be our buddy against Babylon (we saw the problems in fighting a 2-front war already). We want to be able to finish off Babylon & Spain before muskets arrive. Once that't done, we can re-focus on England with a much larger empire.

BTW: I got it and will start tonight

Sounds good and if you disconnect the Pasgadae iron, you might as well do the same with Canterbury...the town has to be connected to the empire anyways.

Hopefully the Lighthouse can help our galleys too, it would be nice to meet some other civs and maybe do some trading.

Glad to see you online - I tried to load the save and it froze both times I tried to run the game - can you zip the file and upload it again - I'll try again tomorrow (GOTM 29 now)

Looks like gozpel managed to resolve my mistakes here, thanks for that. :)

Thanks, this one looks fine.

We've got quite a few Immortals and some Immortals in waiting, so I'll build spearmen for city defense and set up the next guy to start on Babylon.

We are VERY FAR behind in tech. We need to get somebody's land to expand and get a bunch of techs in the peace when the war is over. Babylon is the best target.

When all the troop movements are complete and the garrisons are in place I might provoke Babylon to declare on us. We can't wait too long or we'll be sending Immortals vs Muskets

Agree to that and we could get out of that 8 gpt a little bit early if they declare :) If we could just get the "ring" of Bab-cities outside our lands, we would sit in a much better position.

And we need some galleys, we might find someone else with the help of better naval movements. Just a slight advantage against our neighbours, but we need to utilize it.

Hey Ankka, you did what you could. The only thing you missed in my handover was "we might have to fight defensively" and not spread out troops to far. But practise is good and I remember when you fretted to play Emperor, now look at you. You're playing Deity.

It was my screwup that left you in the situation you got in the first place, and bad luck doesn't count as bad play. You did actually defend and still lost 5 immortals, so there, my plans are not waterproof either :D

I'll post more tomorrow after a little sleepy time

I asked about the outer ring and you got it :)

Beuatiful comeback denyd! I kinda expected something like this from you, but that early???

Yikes, you're a tougher gambler than I thought mate! And a very nice result all in all. Thank you for clearing up what we should've done in the first place.

Now we are on line! Beware fragile neighbours :)

I have to look at this save and see what the heck is going on.

I looked at the save.

We only gained one city, but this spot is a very important city and should be changed to galley right away! Chop the forests and we have a scout on "the right side of the world"

The other razed sides will be populated and hopefully our culture will prevail.

The English are not after our hides, so why are they moving troops like that. They will go for the Babs I believe, it's not for barbs and Isabella and Lizzy are at peace.

I suggest an embassy with England, just to lower Lizzy's aggression against us - plus learning some stuff. Atm it is 32g for an embassy. Can we afford that? Shuure!!

Check out Canterbury, it's quite close to a poprush for that temple! (27 shields left) pop in 2t

The choice in Arbela is temple or galley, if I had a say it should be galley then temple, workers can help up the temple production by a chop or two. We NEED those galleys before culture and happiness, we have that darn lighthouse!

Nothing said above is to make denyd's achievemnents less, on the contrary, he set us up for a different game. Thank you denyd :)

But my plan is better :D and more important in the long run. We need those contacts and perhaps techs.

After all, with one city extra (as after my silly warmonering) we are still stronger than before and the foes are weaker, except Spain. IF Engalnd declares on the Babs, we are in a pretty good position :)

Ahh, why didn't I screw up games before? This is so much more fun.
