hello everyone!

I stopped playing civ IV 2 years ago, now we have 2 addons and so many good looking mods here! wow!

Yesterday I ordered my new copy of civ IV and BtS... so my question is:

which mod can you suggest me to play (first) which one is your favorite and why?

HiM looks very nice but it hasn´t the revolution mod in it, and i would like to try this kind of playing too... Are there ways to combine them?

to all modders: you guys rock!

cheers

I suggest Fall from Heaven 2. unless you don't like fantasy, it's, well, just better than the regular civ game. more fun. WAY more replayability. if you want to stick to normal BTS though, I'd suggest you try a few of these. personal favourites in random order:

1) Rise of Mankind 2, although it has a recurring CTD issue on the lategame right now so you're probably better off waiting till it's fixed.

2) Next War Advanced, basically RoM2 without RevDCM and with tons of unique units and no recurring CTD. if you wanna try the revolution component this is probably not your cup of tea though.

3) overlord 2 is really good too and a new version should be out today or tomorrow.

4) if you just want a mod that doesn't have tons and tons of changes RevolutionDCM is awesome. it has the best components, i.e. the ones that really change the gameplay a lot, and nothing else.

oh and this thread should be moved to another section cuz this is only for posting modpacks for downloads AFAIK.

I play World of Civilization alot. I used to play History in the Making, but they haven't updated to the new 3.17 patch and seem to have no plans to. The mod is pretty much dead IMO.

WOC takes the BTS game and enhances it to the max!

Sounds like you'd be up for the Wolfshanze Mod (link in sig-line below).

It's a Civ-flavor-mod, combined with some new units in the biggest gap Firaxis left in the game... the Industrial Age... and a few new civs (Austria, Poland & Vietnam).

First, the "flavor mod" aspect makes each and every civ look and feel completely unique... Aztec cities look Aztec... Chinese cities look Chinese... Russian cities look... well... Russian. Same for the units... Germans look German, Japanese look Japanese, etc, etc... the uniforms and equipment are specific to each nation (Germans will fly Messerschmidt fighters, Americans will fly P-38 Lightnings, etc, etc). This "flavor" aspect is covered from the dawn of civilization in 4000 BC right up to the very end of the game in modern times.

As for the Industrial Age enhancements, the Wolfshanze Mod adds units missing from that age... especially coal-fired navies, ocean-going ironclads, pre-dreadnoughts and dreadnoughts, WWI units such as early tanks and biplanes.

Gameplay-wise, the game plays the same as it always has... you can still play from 4,000 BC to modern times just like always... tech progression is the same, old strategies still work the same, you just get better looking units, better looking cities, more units to play with in the industrial age, and better naval options.

Here's a video teaser of what you get... if you see it in the movie clip below, you get the equivalent of it in the Wolfshanze Mod... link for the mod is in my sig-line.

I'd try The Ancient Medeteranien (TAM) mod next. Its a very specificly focused mod and does a great job of being accessible and fun.

After that onto Rhye and Fall of Civilization, which after getting used to normal Civ will blow your mind with what it does. And if you are interested in WW2 at all grab Dale's Road to War mod.

Between these three you will hit such a cool variety of mods that you are bound to found mutliple things you will love. Ancient era fixed setting, modern era fixed setting and Rhye's which changes the way Civ is played. I seriously envy new players who get to experience all this for the first time. They truely are works of art.

After you are done playign through each of those (gotta love a game that has a mod community that provides all this free content) you can dive into the wilder stuff. Necro Cristi allows you to fight zombie swarms in a post apocalyptic world, Fury Road allows you to battle in a Mad Max style environment, Planetfall returns you to planet in a Alpha Cenaturi inspired mod. All of these are fun, though still beign activly worked on. There is no danger of being bored anytime soon. :D

thank you all for the replies!!

I think I will give wolfschanze mod a first try...

my preferences are:

-many units with different and unique graphics and nation-styles.

-newest patch and good AI performance

-revolution feature (sounds very good to me) / which is not included in wolfshanze, right? (can I combine it ???)

again, thanks for posting! thats why civfanatics is one of the bes communities out there! :):):):)

cheers

I would suggest the Community Civ. :D It's still an Alpha version but it's much better and stable than you would expect it from an Alpha version. You can find a link in my signature. There are lots of fantastic new features in CCV that you can find no where else.

And it also fits to your preferences:

- more units and improved graphics (and the graphics will be improved again asap)
- it's for BTS 3.17 and has got Solver, Dresden and the Better BTS AI included
- Revolution Mod is included

And there a much more nice details. For example the Green Planet Project that keeps the map green, an advanced random invisible system that gives destroyers only a chance to see invisible units like submarines, the new mobility system that improves roads in three steps from unsurfaced roads to asphalt roads which causes the city radius to increase in steps from 1 to 3, and much more.

Just try it.

TAM is out of date and does not work well with latest BTS patch. :(
It maybe DOA

My advice to the Original Poster is to get Civilization IV Complete. This patches to 3.13 and includes both BtS and Warlords, as well as the base game.

Install two copies of BtS one at 3.13 and one at 3.17 (Downalod from Firaxis). 3.13 allows for TAM and Espana 1936.

Most other strongly worked mods are at 3.17, especially all the high-concept mods (FfH / Fall Further, Rhyes, Road to War, Fury Road, Planetfall) There's also a version of the original Desert War mod out there which has been upgraded to 3.17. It has a couple of flaws, but nothing that makes it utterly unplayable. 3.17 also includes the Mesoamerica mod from Firaxis, but this is a little disappointing.

Warlords allows for all the Warlords Scenarios, but also enables the Pirates mod and the Ancient Arabia mod, both of which are worth your time.

I saw that there is remake of the Sengoku mod from Civ3, but haven't downloaded this yet, so can't comment on it. There's a plethora of Medieval Europe mods out there, I'm not sure which is the "best"

Base Game mods. Aside from Rhyes, there's a lot of them and it's kind of hard to pick between them. I think Extra is a good place to start, as it only includes items from the original game, so the tech-tree and new units aren't too onerous. Overlord 2 and Thomas War add many of the more popular add-ons. Rise of Mankind adds a lot, but I personally found myself being overwhelmed when I played it. (Sometimes less is more) However YMMV, epecially if you liked Double Your Pleasure on Civ3. I've not tried Wolfhanze or WoC yet, so can't comment on them.

With CIV IV: Colonization out shortly, it wouldn't surprise if we saw other colonization variants such as Africa or Australasia, or other colonizing nations such as Portugal. Time will tell as to which is the best.
