I played COTM 05, my first "...of the month" to a rather pedestrian Space Race win, but I had to reload from the autosave in 1680, due to a crash at the foreign advisor screen. Can I still submit?
I also had a crash, both in COTM4 and now in COTM5. Both times it was during peace negotiations which involved me getting a city back which I earlier lost to the civ in question. I reloaded the autosave, and went on to submit in both cases. I think it comes down to: Did you get an advantage from reloading or not? In my case, I got a DIS advantage, so I can't see any reason why I wouldn't be allowed to submit.
F4/Foreign advisor will cause a crash now and then. Its a bug. As long as you try to do everything on the reload as you did it the first time, you can submit the game. I had to do this a month or two ago and it was no problem.
For me its F2 + F3 pressed quickly in a row that almost quranteed causes a crash. Not in early game, but around 500 AD or so when theres plenty of units etc. around.
Thanks everyone ...I just submitted; for the record I'm pretty sure no advantage was gained by the reload, the sequence of events was as follows...start of turn, cancel expired alliances (I do that just for form), zoom to forces outside last city of erstwhile alliance foe, capture city, look at "big picture" then switch from Treaties tab to Details tab, <crash> Reload.
Everyone's given you good advice, but I'll just add a "Staff" seal of approval.
Yes., please submit. Crashes happen. If they happen once or twice in the game then you should reload from an autosave and replay the things you did before in the current move as accurately as you can. If they happen often then we need to fix the problem. We're here to help, so please PM one of the staff to enlist some of the expert help we have around here.
The reload rules are there to stop people gaining advantage by replaying moves or turns with prior knowledge and thereby cheating against the other players. They are not there to stop you enjoying and submitting an honestly played game.
