Considering starting a PTBS 24 hr game based on Earth 1000 AD

What do you guys think about having a huge map at ancient tech levels and a bunch of places to start from?

It would allow for random placement so no one has any inherent advantages necesarily. But at ancient tech levels, there would be quicker expansion and development.

I would also really like to have the game speed at normal or slow so that the development of military units has more advantage. I also hate seeing techs get researched before all the elder units have been updated to the last tech units.

Also, I plan to send everyone a copy of the map well before we actuallys tart the game, maybe a week ahead so people can familiarize with it.

I like! I really like that idea! Do away with these clubmen in 2050.
But if research is slow, maybe disable the 2050 deadline victory. Or if ppl insist on this victory condition, let's agree on something later e.g. 2200AD.

And other than the map, a LOT less overhead for you. :D

Guys the Pitboss is down.

For some reason the machine was dropping programs and telling me I had no connection to the Pitboss when everything was up.

I tried to reboot the machine but it crashes every time I try to sign into my account.

Dont know when the server will be back up, but I will make it ASAP, I promise.

Still working on getting the server restored; havent forgotten you guys.

I had to take my wife to the ospital yesterday and was there all day (policystic kidneys, lord knows I feel awful for her).

Anyway, she is home and safe today and I am going to have the machine up soon, Lord willing.

OK, bad news.

I have a service contract with Dell that gives me 24/7 support to the nth degree and after trying about 6 hours of various things to restore my corrupted security login files, I had two choices; to redo the partitions or to re-install Windows XP and hope that it didnt wipe the Documents folder that for some goofy reason Firaxis put the games folder in.

I chose to re-install and, like my bad luck often does go, the game saves were all wiped out with the re-install.

So the game is over.

I will work on a new game ASAP and have it posted up to Civfanatics here within a few days, I hope.

I want to go with the random start, first come first served on a huge map.

But the map needs to be done right and I will have it available for comments.

Sorry everyone for the idiocy of not having a back up file. I had no idea that this could happen. I will back up the next game to a memory stick each day, promise.

Nice:) I was delighted to see the Victory screen in Civstats.

All in all, it was pretty straighforward game although Persia had to wage war against someone all the time. Early rush neighbours and then just keep the lead. Was easy since Persia got lot's of wheat and hammers in the start. India and Arabia turned into AI's soon and later Greeck and Rome, too. Had to crush only 1 human opponent, the Ottomans. After that Persia was secured by desert in north, mountains in nort-east, jungle in east and ocean in south.

China and Japan just continued their endless war, which made the backyard of Persia even more safe. Wars against Rome, Mali and Zulus were pure defense. There was really no interest to conquere any more cities since they couldn't be razed.

Thanks to everyone who played in the game. And special thanks to our host, Arkcon, of course.:goodjob:

Yep many thanks to Arckon for hosting it.

It might have got more interesting for Persia as you got closer to the Culture victory :) I'm guessing that Platt would have had a shot at Delhi before the end & I was assembling an amphibeous assault to try for Jerusalem that hopefully would have provided a bit of entertainment :D

Thanks.

I am working on the next scenario and will email you the mod when its close enough to being done - maybe another week.

Feels weird to not be checking the server each day, lol.

Yeah, I had some wrenches aimed for Persias gears also, but the machine crash put a stop to that.

You played a great game too, Ian.

I look forward to another game with you and DanD in it soon.

Yeah, I was (eagerly;)) waiting for your joint attack. That's why I had to keep balance between power, research and culture. IanDC really put pressure on me, since his reserch speed was really fast. My culture victory was though quite near, since I had several Great Artists in stock.

That was the worry that was driving my plans, even at only 2600 each I was thinking time was really short
I'd say I was looking at maybe 15 turns minimum to make the attack if I got open borders with Rome so that I could get the ships round & then run the units overland to join them. I wish I'd had an accurate idea of how your tech was going though, I missed not being able to see what I could offer to others. I thought I might have had a decent chance to take the city but wouldn't have been able to hold it without plenty of help from Arckon & the efforts of others to tie down your forces.

Cool - let us know Arckon - and best wishes for you wife!

You are all welcome in regards to hosting the game and I am looking forward to starting the next one. Right now I am trying to figure out how to:

1) add the Texas civ :)

2) add preplotted starting positions. I am thinking:

N America will have 3 (San Fran, Washington, Mexico City)
S America 2 (Peru, Sao Paulo)
Africa 3 (Egypt, Mali, Zulus )
Australia 1 (Sidney)
Asia 9 (Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Japan, India, Persia, Damascus,
Bangkok, Beijing, Istanbul)
Europe 6 (G Britain, Spain, Rome, Sweden, Germany, Russia)

3) Will add galley navigation to America across s pacific, mid Atlantic, coast of Greenland and coast of Alaska. This will keep those ending up in AMerica from being bored to tears.

I want the next game to be No Tech Trading, no Cultural Win, No City flipping due to culture.

Any other preferences?

Space race win?

Raze cities?

Anything else?
