Query:

Was it intended for revolutions to be as ever-present a danger as they seem to be in this mod? I can't seem to go any significant length of time without significant revolutions in half my cities, and I /watch/ for happiness. I mean, I was expecting one, perhaps two revolutions a game, or to see them if my capital got ransacked or I was messing up majorly...but the mod seems to be designed to /force/ players through ever-present revolutions in their cities.

i generally see a couple danger times, usually around mid-game, but on the whole i get relatively few revolts.
What version do you have, 09w tells you whats wrong.
The only tims ive ever had constant inturnal strife was when i founded all the religions and then suffered a major economic crisis while under theocracy, bad mix i'll tell you. And that left all my cities with rebellious sprirt and minority religions and a few nationality problems due to the civil war, and then i faced the problem you describe.
If you tell us what the motives of the revolutionaries are then we might be more posed to help.

Well, I'm told whats wrong is mainly: 1. I have despotic or (later) monarchic governments, and 2. I have a large empire. And despite my best efforts, I can't figure out how to fix that.

I usually play Egypt on Huge maps and expand to fill a nice section of whatever continent I'm on, then hunker down. Sometimes I'm strapped for religion, because egypt won't discover Buddhism or Hinduism first (there are other nations better suited for that), but I don't usually have trouble keeping people happy anyways. My cities are usually fine until they start (revolting, not rebelling)

For example, one of my revolting cities is 3 diagonal tiles away from my capital. It is revolting because of its 'distant location'.
