Constitutional Amendment: Free the Slaves

BTW< this should not be a constitutional amendment. Make it a law or a standard but leave this out of the big book.

For those of you saying "this is just a game": why not support this measure as a self-imposed handicap. Surely we human players can overcome the obstacle and still beat the AI?

@ donsig: whatever book this should go into is fine with me.

Isn't a greater challenge more fun?

Yes, but a challenge that didnt need to be there is not fun to deal with. Diety vanilla is my thing, its not a real challenge for me, but I dont do anything to weaken myself in a game, its just not a good Idea.

Sarevok: the point isn't "Is this the best thing we can do on our path to victory?". This point is more role-playing. Some of the citizens (including me) see that we are treating our slaves badly. We think ofourselves as noble people, gentlemen, with high morals. We can't bear to watch this any longer. We have to treat them better.
Than we translate this to the ingame; pay for upkeep, don't sacrifice them, don't disband them etc.

If we'd want to play perfectly we'd never do this. But we don't want to play perfectly, we want fun and enjoyment. These things are the main reason we only chose Monarchy-level. That level allows us to do those things, for the greater good of our Nation.

Forgive me when I'm wrong, but English is not my native language.

Wouldn't it be grammatically correct to say "They think..., They can't ..., They have .." because it is only those "some of the citizens" and not "we all". ;)

It does not at all conflict with my self-esteem to have foreign workers. We just need not call them slaves. :goodjob:

Or we can call them "Migrant Workers" (spelling?)

They are obviously slaves if we pay our native workers and do not pay the slaves - semantics will not change that.

Not at all. All workers work for free. The native ones just work another shift on payed overtime. :D

So, are we so poor we cannot afford to pay all our workers? There is also the old adage of getting what you pay for. Those workers who do not get paid do not produce as much as those who do get paid. Can we not afford to pay them all and anjoy the benefits of increased productivity?

I like it tao!

Tell you what - if the foreign workers work the same overtime and double their productivity, then we'll pay them the same as our native workers.

Why can't we take on extra workers who work half as much productivity for zero pay in addition to the ones who give full productivity for full pay? As for the foreign workers we already have, it's not like paying them (or rather their governments) will increase their productivity. ;)
