-turn: So, we've gone from controlling no oil and no aluminum to controlling both? Sweet!
1655 AD (1): We discover
Space Flight. Quite frankly, *any* research we choose from here gets us closer to
some component of the SS.
I'm choosing Miniaturization for 3 reasons: First, it leads to the Internet, which is a free Research Lab in each city. Even though we've already built a bunch of RLs, we don't want anyone
else getting the Internet and trying to play catch-up. Second, it leads to a city improvement, and we can always use those. Third, several of our rivals are Scientific, so there's a chance that someone will get Ecology-my second choice- for free, which means we can trade for it.
And, as with the previous players, I'll only note builds that aren't army development.
Noviomagus Commercial Dock->Airport. Arausio Research Lab->Airport. Gergovia Bank->Factory.
As a note: We cannot build the Manhatten Project- it is Militaristic. Not sure we'd want to, anyways.
Diplomatic Standings: Sumeria and Portugal are still at war. Korea and Babylon are still at war. And that's it.
Russia will pay 4 gpt + 70 for our Rubber. Trade Metallurgy (!) to the Aztecs for 6 gpt + 22.
Alesia wastes 100 shields, but switches to the Apollo program.
1660 AD (2):
Alesia begins SS Cockpit. Lapurdum Research Lab->SS Docking Bay.
Intense amounts of pollution springing up. Maybe I
should have gone for Ecology. Oh, well.
1665 AD (3): Burdigala Research Lab->Nuclear Sub. Tolosa Research Lab->Stock Exchange. Axima Research Lab->Jet Fighter.
Gems deal expires; Ottomans now want 89 gpt for it. That's a bit more than I'm willing to hand off, and they don't have nearly enough money to make selling them Motorized Transport worth the Gems. Oh, well; it's not like we're worried about happiness.
IBT: Korea requests an alliance against Babylon. We hand them pamphlets on constructive non-violence.
1670 AD (4): Lugdunum Research Lab->Battleship. Rutupiae Research Lab->Bank. Monguntiacum Research Lab->Airport. Durocoturum Commerical Dock->Research Lab.
Lots of WLTKDs end.
1675 AD (5):
Bananaville begins SS Engine.
Segusio Research Lab->SAM Missle Battery. Arausio Airport->SAM Missle Battery.
Sell
Motorized Transport to China for 210 gpt + 220 g. Sell it to the Ottomans for 85 gpt + 60. Ottomans get Computers for free.
IBT: Babylon and Korea make peace. Babylon joins Sumeria against Portugal.
1680 AD (6): Military production only.
IBT: Ottomans join the anti-Portugal alliance.
1685 AD (7): We discover
Miniaturization.
Tough decision now- Sumer, Korea and Babylon all have yet to hit the Modern Age, and it's a ~60% chance
one of them gets Ecology for free. But Mass Transit would be nice, and getting to Modern Armor before China would make things more secure... still, for anyone else to get Modern Armor, they have to get Ecology first, so better to go for techs we can trade for Ecology. I start us researching Superconductor for 2 more parts. Due in 5 at -73 gpt.
Entremont begins The Internet. All coastal cities switched to Offshore Platforms.
New Agedinicum Granary->Library. New Eboracum Library->Marketplace.
With nearly 10,000 gold, decide to rush nearly all projects in the New World.
IBT: Russia joins anti-Portugal alliance.
1690 AD (8): New Lugdunum Cathedral->Marketplace. Lapurdum SS Docking Bay->SAM Missle Battery. Eboracum Granary->Marketplace. New Entremont Marketplace->Colloseum. New Alesia University->Marketplace. New Camulodunum Airport->Library. New Richborough Harbor->Library. New Verulamium Library->Marketplace. New Gergovia Aqueduct->Library. New Augustodorum Library->Cathedral. Aluminum Poachers Granary->Marketplace. New Burdigalia Cathedral->Marketplace.
1695 AD (9): Alesia SS Cockpit->Police Station. Tolosa Offshore Platform->Stock Exchange.
1700 AD (10): Bananaville SS Engine->Military. Monguntiacum Airport->SAM Missle Battery.
Okay, heres where I pass it on. 3 Spaceship components are now finished; 7 techs to go to get the other 7 components. Only China and the Ottomans have even made it into the Modern Age; neither has Rocketry.
A few strong trades are out there- Korea will give Wines for some very early 3rd age techs; Portugal and Sumer will pay a little for Motorized Transport; and the Ottomans will pay ~1500 + 270 gpt for any modern age tech. The Ottomans are 2nd best in tech, though, so Im not sure that such a trade is worth it.
Militarily, we are strong compared to everyone except China, whom we are average compared to. I suggest that we stop building our military and switch over to Wealth in order to keep our tech research at maximum without having to sell techs to eventual rivals. We lose 247 gpt with 0% tax; thats nearly 1000 shields of Wealth, which means if we can put ~20 cities to wealth, we can break even with no tax. We also have ~7500 gold in the bank, so we can still keep up 100% science for a while without a problem.
I expect well be launching the space ship on my next turn.
