Corporation Idea!

Civ Cafe? Sounds great!

More a :commerce: than a :food: corp. though

EDIT: Welcome to the forums, justinian999 [party] :band:

Thank you for the welcome. :)

I have been thinking of the whole corporation and resource concept and am totally fascinated by it, I think Firaxis could capitalize on a whole new add-on pack being based on corporate finance, culture and diplomacy. I am not negating militarism but for a different game play based on finance and espionage using governments and corporations and a new unit, the Corporate Spy and a new resource, Opium. If a MOD can be built for this I would love it!

Interesting point, there are no corps for spices, dyes, silk and Incense.

my idea requires a new resource, Opium, the red poppy plantations will look great on the map. (and maybe hiding them in jungle terrains from rival eyes until Stealth/Satellites Technology etc.. but I digress). How Opium is rated as a resource I don't quite know, lots of gold, some health and possibly unhappiness - especially for rivals.

Why Opium has never been included in Civilization IV as a resource considering its use and abuse through history by governments, especially imperialist ones beats me. I do remember "Civilization A Call to Power" on the Mac that did have Opium and Tobacco as resources and allowed corporate spys and terrorists, it also allowed you to see rival trade routes as colored lines on the map if required so Privateers and Spys could be more effective at disruption or pillaging the trade routes.

Corporation: Pharmaceuticals Inc, (or whatever... Civ Drugs?)

Resources needed: Opium, Dyes, Spices, Incense and Gold. (will compete with Civ Jewelers and Mining Inc for gold).

Science: requires Medicine and the Red Cross Wonder and Great Person Science.

Allows: Building of Corporate Intelligence office in founding city only of Pharmaceuticals Inc, must be built by GP Spy, new option appears once great spy is moved into founding city of Pharmaceuticals Inc.

Corporate Intelligence Agency built allows Corporate Spy to be built who can:

1. Infiltrate other rival corps and steal resources, money.

2. See rival Corp Spy's and capture them and x% of creation of Double Agent - i.e. Double Agent who has greater XP's and greater success only in rival civs cities of creation at espionage and is harder to detect by rival.

3. Can sell drugs illegally and cause unhappiness x 2Pts x turns in rival city, or when in rival city corp spy to have the option to build a crime network selling drugs and causing unhappiness x turns in rival city. You lose spy in building of network and success depends on espionage points etc. To remove crime network rival civ has to capture corp spy of yours or other civ and move into affected city and neutralize unhappiness effect, lose corp spy in removal process.

4. Can destroy or damage production of other Spys and Science/Culture buildings with greater success.

What do you think? I know I haven't worked out the idea completely but do you think it has merit and are other gamers interested in a game of this type?

thanks Justinian999 :)

the point of this thread is changing the way corp. compete; so the corp. shouldn't compete for gold, but (i think) it should compete with others :commerce: corporations

How about "Medicinal Herbs" (no Civ Drugs!;)) corp.?

Requires (opium), dyes, spices, silk

With Corp. and Biology (if not biology, maybe medicine)

Requires GS (although it is a :commerce: corp.)

1,5 :commerce:, 0,4 :health: and 0,5  per resource consumed

Are there resources that should be in the game? Sure. I think so. Tabacco, salt, tea, and coffee come to mind. And I'd be willing to bet they came into the creators minds to. The issue of balance comes into the game if begin introducing new resources. And that's really the only thing that keeps me from advocating such things. It'd take some serious retooling.

So far as corporations go. I think there should be one or two. Something to incorporate meat. I think a fast food corporation would be ideal. And so wouldn't a meat packing corporation.

Sid's Burger
Tasty Meat Corp

I'm with Stupid :p

You've removed 'Please post in my corporation thread etc...' from your sig. It's finally up and running.

PS What's on 8/10/07

@garbageinhere: sorry if I said the wrong message xD don't delete it if it were because of my message. It was how I found this topic, and this topic is good :)

I inserted that message because your 'I'm with stupid' joke made me laugh :D

And I will post ideas later, but currently I haven't made it to corporations a single time (Always quit or won the game before)

Potatoes? No, no need. What benefit would it serve? You'd then have rice, wheat, corn, and potatoes all serving the same function. It's overkill.

Salt is something that you could have that would go obselete with refrigeration. I really don't understand how salt isn't in the game considering it's history in trade (it was used as currency in places.) Salt should be like gold early in the game, diminish in importance at currency, and be obsolete at Refrigeration.

Tobacco could add commerce and culture bonus, but subtract one health.

Coffee and Tea could add commerce and culture as well. I think it'd add an element to the game, but again, there'd need to be balancing issues with the rest of the resources.

You could even do a tobacco corporation and spam unhealthiness into other civs.

So far was when Sid's Burger would be available, I'd say refrigeration would be the required tech. It would use wheat, corn, cow, and pig, but have similar effects of Cereal Mills.

Tasty Meat Corp would be available at industrialism. It would utilize cow, pig, deer, and sheep. I think it would basically have the same benefits as Cereal mills per resource as well.

Tasty Pop Corn (:commerce: Corp.)

Requires Corn, Sugar, Hit Movies

0,3 :); 0,4 :yuck:; 0,4 :food: and 2 :commerce: per resource consumed

Good Idea!

With Computers, requiring a GM

I think it should also give 2 :commerce:

(maybe a stupid question: )
Spoiler :
how about if it also consumed the Rock and Roll resource?
is that OK or completely crazy?
