Corrupt files, what should I do?

Some of my files got corrupted, I didn't think too much about it, reinstalled my anti-virus and scanned my computer (AVG Free 9.0), but there wasn't anything. Now my computer does not recognize the fact that I have headphones plugged in ("No Audio Output Device Installed"). It worked fine yesterday, after I got the corrupted files. I do not think that I did anything to the system to cause this.

What should I do? Change hard drive?

Were you able to retrieve any of the corrupted files?

Anyways, reinstall your sound drivers.

I don't think so, but up until now, I couldn't see that anything important was lost.

Also, I use motherboard sound.

Still, it will have drivers for it. Try reinstalling those.

It's possible that whatever creepy-crawly that got your files also zapped your sound files. Could also be unrelated....

Alright, I have reinstalled my sound drivers, but it didn't help unfortunately.

From Device manager: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."

Try uninstalling your sound card in Computer Management. Start -> Right click on 'My Computer' and select Manage. Open the device manager. Find your sound card. Right click, uninstall. Then scan for new changes. This sometimes works better than just reinstalling the drivers.

Tried that too. Didn't help. I'm really starting to worry.

I'd check the health of the hard drive too.
