Hi guys, does anyone know any exact figures as to the effects of police stations and courthouses? Does anyone build them on the regular? I know that it will have different affects with different governments(sp?) but just how much difference do they make? Cheers for reading.

I don't know the specifics, but usually (at least for me) a courthouse reduces corruption to about 45/55 corruption/useable. With a police station added about 35/65. And that's with a Rebuplic government no war.

I think it depends on where you build them and how many cities you have. A courthouse in your semi-core helps alot, whereas one way out will probably not help at all. Usually, the rule of thumb is build courthouses in towns with less than 90% corruption, which usually is in your first 20-40 cities(depends on map size). There are many wise people here who can tell you much about rank and distance corruption, but I try to avoid that level of complexity.

most of the time they aren't useful. They take more in maint. than they recoup in cities further out, and in close in cities they make a trivial difference in production. You have to be smart about what you are trying to build... just for an example, a tank might be 80 shields to build. If your city is turning out 45 shields and losing 5 to corruption, it doesn't matter b/c the tank will be built in two turns with or without a courthouse. Now, if the city is only producing 38 shields and losing 5 to corruption, a courthouse won't help either because its the total shields that are your problem... the tank will take 3 turns to build regardless. If you can't wait that long for tanks, use that city to build something like 60 shield artillery in 2 turns. And never build a courthouse in your capital/forbidden palace cities, thats a total waste.

Police stations fight war weariness, but you're almost better off just going with a dif gov't if you're planning lots of wars. Or try and build univrsl suffrg.

Courthouses also reduce effect of enemy propaganda (I am not sure if this is cumulative with police station)perhaps justifying building them in border cities. But I don't know to what extent or how effective they are at doing this.

Yes, in the capital; no, in the FP city. The FP city has a cap of 20% on corruption, but the cap is further reduced by building either a courthouse or a police station. The corruption cap goes to zero (i.e. 100% productive city) if you build both. If the raw production in your FP city is evenly divisible by ten, it can be worth it to build both improvements there.

And in general, that should be your approach. Look for cities that can be brought to multiples of ten (or other convenient divisions of a unit you are wanting to produce - ten is just the most universally useful). This changes throughout the game, of course, but a courthouse in an early city which moves it from eight or nine uncorrupted shields to ten can save you literally dozens of production turns. You may not want to build courthouses everywhere, but if you are selective, they can very much repay their investment.
