after getting and playing civ3 last night, Cossacks still rocks!!!

no scenarios or multi-player= BAD CIV game

Hmmm, Cossacks is an RTS right? Civ 3 is TBS (Turn Based Strategy) right? Don't see how you can compare the two really. Now, if you would've said that Cossacks beats out Broodwars then you and I are gonna have some issues. hehehe ;)

Now I do 100% ab-so-lutely agree that no MP = BAD CIV 3

Cossacks is awful!
awful!!!!!!!
It is slow annoying, and the AI just skips around your base converting stuff.

Civ 3 ricks much more(though I havent played it, or any other civ for that matter)

So why am I here, am I a fanatic?

Not yet, but u lot have taught me so much that I think I might have enough knowledge to be!

Thanx, this is kinda outt place but this is my first post.

civ2 and SMAC could have been played using RTS. thing about Cossacks is it focuses on the fun part, battles!! creating peasants, techs, etc are there but there's something about creating full armies with formations that make strategy games fun. if you have never tried cossacks, i STRONGLY recommend you do. i've been a long time civ player until introduced to Cossacks which blew me away. better graphics, gameplay, overall. :)

with all due respect, it could be because you're not playing the game right. you can set the AI speed all the way up and you will find a difficult time keeping up with it. as far as AI marching through your city, just gotta learn the tactics to prevent it. granted, the 'diplomacy' is the only part missing but if you try the new add on demo or american conquest (not yet released) this will be included. diplomacy is irrelevant in MP games anyway but the new add on has some great new features that make it more civ style.

you already posted a topic on this in the scenario creation forum

And by the way ,Cossacks sucks :p :it has nice graphic's ,but it's tacticly unrealistic.

i don't think it's any more unrealistic then most PC strat games including civ. matter of fact, it's more in-depth with units etc than civ.

You blaspheme! Cossacks!

Bossacks, more like!!!

Remove this fellow and lock him up with
the rabid babbons!

Different type of game, you nut!
yer reading too many magazines!

RTS strategy= build troops until victory...repeat as req.
DUUUOOOORP!

Listen, if ya want that sorta thing, dpont go for awful old annoying AI cossacks.

Go FOR SHOGUN, or Age of Empires, cossacks, as my brother said.

"Just feels like Im waistin my time"

And I totally agree.:goodjob:

oh, Civ Rocks!

for good strategical games: Shogun: Total war ,close combat ,Sid's gettysburg ,...(and probably many other ,not mentioned here)
As a true startegy fan i have bought cossack's ,but played it only a few times.Didn't like it.The graphic's were awsome ,that's a fact ,but gameplay eeerrrrr.
Civilization? it's an empire building game.
Civilization III ?? I am playing my first game ,and it looks nice.Though the fact that scenarios / creation possebilety / or multiplayer posibilety are not included ,patches will be provided probably later on. As i see it ,there is a lot of Potential in this game.
by the way ,this is Off-Topic ,must be moved to other games forum.

SMAC had RTS too , and if you know how to play, theres' more to just building troops (isn't that what all strat games amount to anyway?) to me, cossacks and civ is almost the same thing except in cossacks you are able to decide what the units do in battle, their formations, etc where civ it's just 1v1 unit. once american conquest comes out, civ 1,2,and 3 will be like playing chutes and ladders compared to it.

I feel happy for you!

your life will be complete.

I will continue to play CIV,

Each to thier own.:goodjob:

my god man, you don't know what you are missing. play multi-player cossacks? that's where the fun is. you can actually complete a game within 2 hours.

i will give civ this. their ww2 scenarios (actually, the ones created by the players) and other scenarios have been the best. i try to find every ww2 strat game out there and it's funny that they are hard to find.

does anybody remember PTO (pacific theater of operations)for old nintendo? i wish they had an updated version of that game for the PC because it was pretty cool and close to being just as good as the created ww2 civ scen.

Ok he's your god man, keep him.

Wow! we have more in common than you thought,

I have the pacific theatre game and play it still! crazy!

And I play CIV for the scenarios (hence why I was moaning for the last 2 days about the lack of scens for C3!) more crazy!

I like games to last more than 2 hours, thank you.
Civ long sessions are what makes it great for me!

Try the old SNES classic Geghis Khan 2!!! It kicks rear!

My Multiplayer kami-power I reserve for RUNE HOV!
When I'm not feeling strategic!

yes, we do have much in common. including being agnositic/athesists with no gods!! i'm surprised i used 'my god man' myself. oh well, i'll save that for my political discussion forums. anyway, that's cool u still play PTO. let me know if you ever hear of an updated version of that. i,too, like scenarios longer than 2 hours but i was speaking of short,multi-player games and regular,non-scenario games. then again, me and this other dude played many civ2 ww2 scenarios that would take many hours and weekends to complete. they were the best! also, that geghis khan2 game did rock as well for being on SNES. i think i rented it one time and told them i lost it. hahahaha

the thing about the civ2 ww2 scenarios is that it would start off with so many units it took a long time for 1 turn. of course, the game sped up as units were killed. i think the best solution to that would be rts and then stop if units encounter each other. it's possible being SMAC had rts but we'll hope for the best...

Casper,

One day we'll all play the perfect Strategy game!
Empire earth looks cool,
but I'll hold out for some CIV updates!

I give you Respect!:goodjob:
