Another newbie question here.

How can I tell what military units are costing me in upkeep? I've tried disbanding a few ones I didn't really need to see if it saved me some money, but it didn't seem to do anything, just lose me the units. Once or twice, I recovered some shields, but my cost/earnings per turn remained the same.

Is there a way to tell? Do certain units cost, while others are free? How else can I save money (I've decreased my science funding, which I don't like doing, and I'd like to raise it again, but need to make cuts elsewhere to do it)?

I'm playing Civ III Conquests, Chieftain level, Monarchy government, if that matters.

Each unit costs the same. You have a limit which is determined by the amount of cities/towns you have. If you press F3 then you'll see what the limit is.

If you go over the limit then you just have to pay 1 gold per turn in Monarchy, I think. In over govs it's different.

So, I may not currently be paying anything in upkeep, because I'm below my limit?

I do have a lot of cities... I wish I'd known that before disbanding them. I should probably read the manual, but it's, like 250 freakin' pages long!
