The Final Years of the Korean Empire:
1435 A.D. Nasty Byzantia declares war and attacks for no reason other than their desire for world domination. I have only riflemen – no infantry unlike them – and expect the worst but it turns out ok. I lose a frontier town or two, but I get an army and pillage their countryside until they agree to peace. Meantime I discover
replaceable parts, build infantry, and am finally feeling secure. The plan now is to build a spaceship and get off this continent.
1876 A.D. I have built the
Apollo Program after trading for Aluminum with the Celts but now the situation has changed. Only the Celts and Byzantines are left alive. They each have two Aluminum and neither will trade it. My only chance at victory is the space race so I prepare to invade Byzantine territory to take an aluminum for my own.
1876 – 1916 A.D.: Byzantium and Korea engage in a long and ruinous 40 year war. My entire army is depleted, as is theirs, and fresh recruits are thrown to the front to die almost immediately. I do take the Aluminum source and much of their territory, but my citizens openly revolt and our cities turn from hand-to-hand so often they don’t know what nationality they are. The Byzantines are sending transports to my shores with three escort ships and
one tank
on the transport. I know they must be equally depleted. Finally they drop massive ICBMs – maybe even nuclear weapons – on five of my main cities. I continue to throw my remaining armies at them, take and lose a few cities, and FINALLY the Celts declare war on them. In a few turns they agree to peace for 20 gold, but what destruction they left behind:
1917 A.D.: We never suffered a plague, but we never had a Golden Age either. Byzantium has the U.N. but an election was never held. Only the Celts, Byzantium and Korea survive, so I don’t suppose there could ever be a successful election. Now we are into the space race for sure.
1960 – 1968 A.D.: Celtic War. This should be my last war, hopefully. Three separate invasions of six units each die on the beachfront. My modern armor force has been built up, is potent, and will protect my island. I still share the island with Byzantium, but I won’t attack her if she won’t attack me. (I still need Robotics…)
1971 A.D. I lose. My spaceship was close but no cigar. My first COTM victory is still in my future.
Review: It was a good map and an enjoyable game, thanks again to templar_x for making it. Maybe I almost won, maybe I wasn't as close as I thought. The big wrinkle for me was the fight to get aluminum. An earlier expansion might have helped, but war will come regardless. My natural inclination is to be a builder and my certain preference is a 20k victory. I think I lack a strategic vision of how to get a win at any level above Regent.
