... You had two continents to overcome - how did it go?
The FP came in at the cattle town to the west. Chariots were hoarded until Chivalry. At about the time of the FP completing I invited Rome to declare and started a GA. Russia was a nice ally. After Rome the Maya were swept. Again with Russia as a friend. Around this time cavalry became available. They quickly dispatched Russia and then Greece. I had yet to meet the other continent. As soon as Russia was gone I relocated the palace to Moscow. The plan was to meet the rest of the world and go for a SS victory. However as soon as contact was made it became evident that a domination would be quick as they were relatively backwards. Victory just before 1300AD.
Notes: Once again I found myself lacking workers early on. Also I knew the other continent was backwards because all the wonders were being built by local AI. But it didn't occur to me that this would mean an early naval assault would be feasible. Partly because I had this vision of endless ship chaining which didn't become necessary after all. Just a few galleons can move quite a bit in short order. And I was at war almost always after REX but only two MGLs. One hurried the Palace in Moscow, the other hurried the Knights Templar.

I had very good luck with military / RNG in this game. Catapults are usually useless for me, but in this game they were great against spearmen & pikemen. It seemed like I hardly lost any battles until Hittite cav started attacking my riflemen. I doubt it will happen again anytime soon, but I sure enjoyed it.

AD 110 I was going to build ToA, but I lost it, so I switched & built TGL
300 Captured Pisae; MGL
470 declare on Russia
490 culture flip to us from Ru
880 Metallurgy
920 declare on Greece
1090 Greece off the mainland, but I had two or three culture flips to them before I wiped them off the desert island. Should have starved those cities I guess.
1130 declare on Inca
1140 defeat Russia
1160 Inca land next to my undefended capital; luckily I have a cav army 12 tiles away. Whew!
1255 I had it set up so that I would get Shakes, Newton & Magellan on the same turn. I lost Shakes & Newton by one turn; got Magellan. Lots of shields wasted on two banks.
1400 Domination victory for Egypt

I did not have enough galleons, and did not start with a big enough invasion force, so the war with the Inca did not go as well as it could have.

I managed yet again to trash my trading rep. Here is what I think happened:
I have a 20-turn peace treaty with A.
I am at war with B.
I attack B.
Uh oh, A & B have a MPP.
A declares war on me.
My rep is trashed.
Could that be what happened? Do you always know when the AI have MPP's? This time it was news to me.

How did you do this?  I thought in C3C Great Wonders can't be hurried?!

Lanzelot

Yup sorry, I'm in the middle of TOO many civ games at once! MGLs can rush small wonders, SGLs can rush anything including great wonders. I know one of the MGLs rushed the palace as when I captured Moscow it had a high pop and good land improvements. Plus a good set of local cities. So I had a stronger core than just before. But I don't remember what the other one did. I usually use the first MGL to rush the FP but once again I can't remember if I did that in this game.

So, I’d started the MA at war with the Romans, researching Feud, hedging bets between aiming for Knights and Cavalry. In 410 BC my galley met the Byzantines, who already had Eng – when I completed Feud a couple of turns later we exchanged and I started on Inv, heading for MT and cavalry as fast as poss.

The war with Romans peaked when taking Rome in 310 BC (took half a dozen swords), finished them off 270 BC – fortunately they never produced any legionaries, despite have Iron hooked up.

The galley kept going round the other continent and in 190 BC met the Hittites (fairly backward) – in 10 AD it completed the circuit of other continent, and promptly sank trying to make its way back across to my continent!

After the war with the Romans I paused a few turns to heal and then started on the Mayans. Got an MGL in 70 BC, made an army and loaded with MI. Took Chichen Itza in 110 AD (it must have had at least 8 spear / javelins, glad I had the army), finished them off 190 AD.

Again, couple of turn to regroup and then declared on Greece 270 AD – pretty slow going until I got MT in 450 AD and Leonardo’s in 490 AD. Thanks to a locally rushed barracks in one of the Greek towns, a mass cavalry upgrade immediately took Athens in 500 AD, and Greece was wiped out in 520 AD. After MT I turned research down to a nominal 10% as I was way ahead and thought I had all I needed (bad move in hindsight).

Pulled all the cavalry together and marched South to declare on Russia in 550 AD. Finally got second MGL in 590 AD (made into a cav army that wreaked total havoc), rapidly followed by a third in 620 AD (which I held off doing anything with). Wiped out Russia in 650 AD. They had settled a couple of towns on the island to the West – when I landed my first force of 3 cav and 1 MI, it was promptly annihilated by about 50 barb horsemen! Picked the landing site for the second wave more carefully and the barbs left me alone, though I decided to raze the towns as I couldn’t be bothered defending them (never had any major barb problems on the main continent).

At that point I had got the whole continent but only 50% territory. Realise I only have galleys to get all my cavalry across to the other continent! Research to Astronomy at max (fortunately I’m down to 4 turns), prebuild for Magellan and aim to capture GLH from Incans (who only have 4 towns by this point), start building lots of galleys in preparation for heavy losses at sea.

In 720 AD I got two galley chains in place (after the first couple sank) and shipped over an empty army and 3 cav to load on landing. 750 AD took Cuzco, which in addition to the GLH and pyramids had completed Sun Tzu 1 turn before (first time I’ve been happy to see an opponent pick that up!). 770 AD got another MGL (cav army) and wiped the Incans off the continent, but they were still alive somewhere. Now had caravels that, together with the GLH, could safely transport between the continents, so cavalry piled across.

In about 800 AD I set up an RoP with the Arabs and declared on the Byzantines as, although they were at the opposite end of the continent, Constantinople had ToA. Captured in 850 AD, but forgot that my research push had now got Ed and rendered it obsolete. Grr. Wiped Byzantines out around 900 AD (the Arabs had taken a lot out of them too). At some point around here I completed the Pentagon and Military Academy, so my cav armies are steamrollering everyone.

In 820 AD I declared on the Hittites – they got Knights Templar, but my armies steadily work through and I finish them off in 920 AD. Just me and the Arabs on the second continent - cash rush / disband units to build temples, settle for peace with the Incas and Byzantines and get PP & a town on the far island in the deals. Keep research going just so I can finish in the IA (entered 940 AD) – achieved domination in 970 AD.

Main thoughts in hindsight – the starting location was pretty good even with the slight lack of shields, though the early disease hit hard. I may have built too many early warriors (and not enough workers) as I ended up disbanding a load at one point to keep costs down – though I did get a lot of early exploration and used the rest for MP, so not totally sure on that one. Got plenty of luxuries hooked up during initial expansion so rarely needed to use the slider (just when the war with Greece dragged on). Didn’t have any libraries till very late as nobody bothered researching Lit. Overall the number of MGLs felt a little light, particularly since I’d had heroic epic since 290 AD, and the split was odd – one quite early, then a huge gap before all the others came relatively late. That’s RNG I suppose! Will be interested to see earliest victory dates as I feel the separation between the continents would have meant an early invasion was very risky.

Predator Conquest

Cleopatra of the Egyptians entered the Middle Ages in 775 BC through the discovery of Construction and could immediately trade for Feudalism from her girlfriend Catherine over a glass of dissolved pearles in the donkey-milk tub. Alexander if the Greeks made the same discovery as Catherine. The Byzantines were not to be found at this time.

A couple of turns later, war was instigated against Maya and Greece with strategic alliances with Rome and Russia, respectively. Another two turns later, a Golden Age started in Egypt celebrating the victory of a War Chariot in the capture of a close-by Mayan city which would soon be part of the Egyptian core.

Some milestones on the way to world conquest were the discovery of Monotheism in 590 BC and Chivalry in 470 BC. Quite advantageous for the Egyptian tribe is the possibility to choose to build either War Chariots or Horsemen for upgrade. The Forbidden Palace was finished only in 390 BC, fifteen turns into the Golden Age.

Egypt met the Inca in 370 BC and received War Happiness from a treacherous breaking of alliance by the Romans the turn after, when we could also learn Engineering. What possessed the aliens to research that for us, Cleopatra asked her priests.

In order to acheive total conquest, Cleopatra researched towards Navigation, which she discovered in 360 AD. War was then waged also on the other continent, where only the Incans were known to live. The Hittites revealed themselves in 400 AD, the Arabs in 420 AD and the Byzantines in 470 AD, at which time they had been reduced to a single city on a three-tile island by the Arabs.

After a few flips and four Great Military Leaders all creating Armies, Conquest was achieved in 620 AD.
