also the ira who are a guerilla ( who are described as terrorists only because of slander ) style fighting group affect the world hugely by
1. They are the most powerful guerilla fighting group in the world
2. They bombed many english banks and stock exchanges which cost the english government over 4 billion repair and this also affected the world stock market and foreign investment in england

Okay, so you say that the IRA are only "described as terrorists because of slander", and in the next sentence, you brag about how they bombed English banks... wouldn't that be terrorism?

I dotn fully agree with garnif but he has a point ira are described to be much worse than they really are . Please dont but the ira in the same group as al quide or the talaban ( sorry for the misspelling :) ) ira does not involve religion in any of it's activity also they made the group to defend there island and country also an ira member has never suicied bombed any thing

i dont want to get into poiltics or anything like that because im not very good in that area :)
And please dont call the Irish Republician Army a terrorist group it's demeaning to our freedom and our people

P.S I watched them videos there pretty good i never new that ireland made one of the biggest jail breaks in history :) :)

I wasn't talking about religion, but the Taliban also say they are fighting to defend themselves from the 'infidel', whoever they happen to not like at the time. If someone bombs buildings with the intent to cause fear for political or ideological aims, it is considered terrorism by most of the world. I'm not saying that the IRA is in the same league with the Taliban, but bombing a building is bombing a building. (As a side note, I am willing to be most people in my school don't know what the IRA is, so they arent a major part of the world.) Then again, what I recall of the IRA when they bombed a major building (and didn't they hijack or hold an airlplane hostage once, or was that another group?)

My understanding is the modern IRA is political but certainly during the 1980s they did some activities that could have been described as terroristic. Didn't they use to stick bombs in public mailboxes?

In my view, a guerilla attacks armed opposition soldiers.
a terrorist attacks the opponent's unarmed civilians.

and religion isn't part of their agenda? I always thought they were pro-Catholic. Are there protestants in the IRA?

We are badly off topic. The sad part about this is that I really don't care if Ireland is in civ or not, yet I keep posting.
