I don't have a manual so I still don't know how a lot of stuff in the game works. I'm at the campus library right now and I will post what I remember.

1- Does it make a difference what traits/stats whatever your faction leader has?

2- What does the "influence" stat do?

3- Are there more formations than the few that you immediately get when pressing the formations button?

4- Is it possible to set up some kind of custom formation but make them all stay in order? I don't want to spend 20 minutes clicking to make a formation lined up perfect just because I want a unit or two positioned differently than the default gives me.

5- Is it possible to choose which unit will be a general in a battle if you don't have a family member in the hgroup?

6- How do hit points/defence/attack work?

7- Is there some kind of way to choose what your towers are targeting when your town is getting attacked?

8- Why is naval combat so ridiculous? Why does a ship need to have somehwere around 15 or less men left on it before I can actually sink it.. so frustrating. A whole armada of quadriremes only takes out a couple guys off a lone bireme and it goes running away.

9- Are hoplites just stupid? Several times I told them to get in a position and then they face the opposite way. Other times I had them all set up nicely guarding my town, and one of the units decides to start running out and chasing enemies down with their swords instead of holding their ground in a phalanx like I told them to.

10- Do barbarian armies in your land have any negative effect other than possibly attacking your units/cities?

Well thats all I can think of right now without having the game in front of me.. besides have to go back to class in a few minutes. Thanks in advance:nuke:

1- Does it make a difference what traits/stats whatever your faction leader has?
Kind of. Command helps your armies in battle. Management increase income from cities. Influence increase happiness in cities. Traits can affect happiness, income, morale, having kids, etc.
2- What does the "influence" stat do?
For generals, it makes cities happier. For diplomats, it helps negotiations.

3- Are there more formations than the few that you immediately get when pressing the formations button?
No, IIRC.

4- Is it possible to set up some kind of custom formation but make them all stay in order? I don't want to spend 20 minutes clicking to make a formation lined up perfect just because I want a unit or two positioned differently than the default gives me.
If you move the entire group they should stay in the same postitions.

5- Is it possible to choose which unit will be a general in a battle if you don't have a family member in the hgroup?
No.
6- How do hit points/defence/attack work?
Units with more hit points take longer to die. Attack is for attacking units, defense is for defending against the units attacks. Shield (part of defense) protects units from arrows.

7- Is there some kind of way to choose what your towers are targeting when your town is getting attacked?
Nope.

8- Why is naval combat so ridiculous? Why does a ship need to have somehwere around 15 or less men left on it before I can actually sink it.. so frustrating. A whole armada of quadriremes only takes out a couple guys off a lone bireme and it goes running away.
Naval Combat is not that good, eventually the ships will sink.

The AI is just bad at combat.

10- Do barbarian armies in your land have any negative effect other than possibly attacking your units/cities?
If they stay in your land they will cut off trade and damage the countryside.

1. Traits and items/attendents have negative or positive effects. Hover the mouse over them to learn more. For example, a victorius general will gain better fighting/commanding traits while a general who lsoes a lot will get negative traits. Some are random however.

2. Influence is used in diplomatic neogotiations, the higher the influence, the more likely you will get what you want.

3. Personaly, I rarely use that tab, I general set up my own formations (one unit at a time, just remember, DON'T press enter in the set up phase unless you are done).

4. THe direction the camera is facing is roughly the direction a unit will face if you select it and tell it to og somewhere, and you can clock and drag a box around many units. I'm sure others can explain better than me.

5. I've wondered that myself, I believe that it is the first unit in the unit list on that tile.

7. I HATE those towers, they are a pain in the buttocks when I attack a town, and my men seem to have difficulty getting up on the walls. I don't believe you can control them.

8. I know how you feel, it IS rediculous.

9. See 4 for the first part, for the 2nd, can't help you, sorry.

10. In M2 I've seen enemie forces leave blackened terrain behind, so I assume they disrupt the economy a bit.

EDIT: Gah! Beaten by 2 minutes!

for #9. The phalanx formation is sort of bugged.Take them off guard mode, group the phalanxes.
4. use the group formations.

If you move the entire group they should stay in the same postitions.

And in addition to this, if you select the entire group and move them while holding the alt key, they'll move as the same formation and remain pointing in the same direction as they were originally.

I find it very handy for 'fine-tuning' my army positioning at the start of a battle.

THANSK KAN! I'm ALWAYS ticked off when the enemy decides to put themselves to the left or right >.>

Thanks for answers. But for number one I meant the actual leader, not just some random general or governor. Will it affect my faction as a whole if for example my leader has 3 stars instead of 4 or only has 2 management?

And about the HP/attack/defence thing, I'm aware of the terms lol I've played games before ;)
But what I was asking for was a more detailed breakdown of how each affects combat... for example if a unit with high defence but low hp survives longer or the other way around, or how is attack actually calculated.. it seems that many times units get killed in one hit, regardless of the attack of the enemy or their dfence.

Command stars increase morale, Management increases the amount of income in a city if the governor is in the city. Influence improves order in a city and diplomatic negotiations.

I'm aware by now of what the stats do, but what I'm asking is does it matter what stats my FACTION LEADER has? I mean does his command increase the morale of all my units? Does his management increase the income in all my cities? Etc..
Basically if it still isn't clear, will I notice a difference if I have a faction leader with no points, or another with a bunch of stars and management and influence.
