My game crash/freeze randomly
Please help, my game crash (just freeze up) during the game randomly after turn 350.

Is that because of the hardware or it is a known problem?

MY system:
Intel(R) Core 2 Duo 3.00 Ghz
3gb ram
Windows 7 home premium 32bit
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GS

Thanks in advance

I've noticed that when i have one crash in one match, this match is impossible to complete. If you restart all, the crashes still goes on in the same turn, even if you change the moves.

Hardware is okay (the graphics card is not great, but okay), it's the game.
Civ5 tends to freeze in the late game and/or on everything bigger than standard, so there's nothing we can do here, only Firaxis can do something.

Thank you for your reply; would my experience with Civ5 would be better if I just upgrade the graphics card?

That was exactly what happen to me, freeze on the same turn during the AI phrase.

On some other thread here I read that switching to strategic view has helped some people who experience the crashes during a specific turn. I haven't tested it myself as I haven't faced similar crashes yet but you should give it a try.

Most probably only graphically (because with a new graphics card you could use the DirectX11 option), but not regarding stability.

Didn't help me none

Edit: on the other hand I just managed to advance a turn using DirectX 9, minimum graphics, smallest resolution, windowed, strategic view, over the ocean, and minimizing the game after hitting the next turn button.

I hope that firaxis finally fix Civ5, because from september at now civ5 is only a big problem. And now its not working. It's a shame. In practice we have paid for a beta software.

It worked for me for a bit.

I usually had to restart a few times before it would move on past that point.

I went to 9x and it was smooth sailing until today when the freezes happened again.

I've also noticed this has been happening recently (since December 20th or thereabouts). It fails late in the game around turn 350. For me its random, if I reload the game it will work for a few more turns then fail again. Very frustrating. Given that I cannot now finish a game I would say that this game technically doesn't work.

Get this fixed Firaxis!

Changing graphics settings will not change anything. I turned mine all the way up. If you really want to finish a game, here are some tips. Turn off auto unit pick. Save the game every few unit moves (keep overwriting the same file). Avoid jumping around the map (try to do all the unit movements in one area before going to the next). If you go into city view, come back out before going to the next City View. Delete all Units from the game. Just kidding. Something happened when they "fixed" the "auto unit pick" that now, when the graphics refreshes, it causes sytems that fall in the minimum to middle range to "Stop Responding" especially on large maps, and possibly if there are a lot of terrain improvements. It may be a heat related issue or a out of resources issue. The Graphics refresh just freezes and does not release the game back to normal state. I am curious though if it has anything to do with city count. I have over 100 cities in my current game and sometimes it takes a while to "draw" them back in. I have also noticed that it takes about 3 scans/frame before the graphics are complete, and it can freeze during any of the scans. You can also put your mouse on the edges and the map will change just fine, but when it has to rewrite the whole frame, is when you have a problem. Yes the game has gone from "just one more turn" to "just one more reload".:mischief:

Ditto, I'm getting locked out when my screen is pulled across the map by orderless units (mouse and taskmgr work though). Playing Huge right now, and tanking at turn 220.

I saw a post in another thread that advises a switch to Strategic View between turns. I haven't tried this but was wondering if others have.

Is everyone skipping the introductory movie by any chance?

I dont know about everyone else, but whenever mine crashed and i started task manager (in windows 7) the civ screen was replaced with a paused section of the intro movie (the exact part where it skipped). So my friend and i decided perhaps it was the movie that caused the crash. I didnt skip the movie last night (and ran it on a lower directx level) and did not experience any hiccups and was able to play for hours on end.

Today i'm going to try it on a higher directx setting, but still not skipping the intro movie and see if that works fine as well.

Just something to throw out there to those experiencing troubles ;)

i got crashes in strategic view too...i tried all the methods online, none of them worked.

If you add in the fact you don't get a save option in Menu for your own worldbuilder games, imagine the fun of freezing one turn before you take the last Capital city on the map other than your own.

Happened to me.

FIX THIS FIRAXIS!!!!
