Hello all.

I did a quick search, but couldn't find any posts / fixes that helped, so I wondered if anyone could shed some light on this problem.

Plain old CivIV - No expansion packs.

After starting a new game, it loads to the point of almost allowing me to play, and then crashes back to the desktop. Basicaly it loads fine, but as soon as I am about to start the first turn (zoom in on little dude with spinning round icon beneath him) it all goes wrong.

I'm running Vista on relatively old hardware, but it all meets the recommended specs;

Athlon XP 2800 overclocked to (2.8ghz)
2Gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3650 512mb

I've got the latest drivers for all my hardware (GFX card is quite new), and full versions of both DX10 & 9c.

I've patched to latest version (1.61?), or at least the latest patch I could find, and still nothing. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times, even using a registry cleaner between installs, but still nothing. I've even removed my overclocking settings and went back to standard configuration incase it was an overheating problem, but nope.

It worked fine on XP sp2, no problems whatsoever. Just since I moved to Vista (had to for work purposes) I have hit a wall.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm currently installing XP in a VM to see if it works, but it's not an ideal solution, as you could imagine.

Thanks. :)

EDIT:

Running it in an XP VM works fine, just really, REALLY slow. Unplayable really. So I'm assuming it's a problem with my Vista installation. :s
