Crash to a 800x600 4bit desktop

Same Problem.

Specs:
Intel P4 2.8 GHz w/ HT (Intel 865 Chipset)
Win XP Home SP2
1 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 4 MX440 (AGP 8X)
Driver 81.95

This only started happening to me after the patch and upgrading to 81.95 so I am not sure which "caused" the problem. Make sure when this crash happens that you click on the link to "send the error report to Microsoft." There is an announcement from the Mods on this forum that Microsoft will be forwarding this crash reports on to Firaxis to help them work on the next patch.

Originally, i had tons of problems, mainly due to to the 81.95 update to my video card. After rolling back my drivers to version 71.89, i have had few problems. I uninstalled the game after installing the old graphics driver. I have finally finished my first game. I don't get the crashes to desktop anymore, just the occasional graphical errors. I am pretty satisfied now. It had been a rough month.

Athlon 3400+
NVIDIA GE Force FX 5700LE
1gb ram

Good News Everyone!!!!!
I had the CTD issue for a while with my BFG Nvidia 5500 OC Card...and i have tried every possible solution out there...i disabled memory pagings, turned off the screen shoot function and so on...and Still crashes...and then ONE day i read someone’s post on this forum....I think it was Warx's post...anyways he/she suggested downgrading your drivers to 71.89...And guess what --- it WORKED....I have no more CTDs anymore...there is still slowdowns in the game(really minor) but no crashes(on medium graphics - low graphics just dont cut it for me - too stiff i feel like i am playing chess or something).
To sum up:
Downgrade to 71.89 to avoid crashes.:goodjob:
And
Keep on Civing....

Once in a while I have the very odd occurance where I exit Civ4 (no crash), but end up back on a low rez 4 bit color desktop. Once that happens, shutting down and restarting is the only thing that restores things to normal. I've tried changing driver versions back and forth and still have this problem, along with occasional crash to desktop.

Bump for great justice, I'm a victim of this one as well on a 6600GT AGP with 78.01 drivers. I'll give The_Kangaroo's .ini settings a shot though and post back on how that works.

This has gone away for me after applying Harkonnen's Memory Patch.
So far so good for me as well, played 4 hours on my huge multiplayer game (1000AD-about 1600AD) without any crashing, with Harky's patch.
