crashes

I just purchased a new laptop from Sony about a week ago. It is a Windows 8 touchscreen. I can’t play without crashes. I can’t be certain, but I assume it is a video driver issue. This particular laptop comes with switchable graphics. I can switch between the Intel HD Graphics 4000 card and a AMD Radeon HD 7670M card. I play using the default graphics. I didn’t change anything.

No matter what card I use, I get random crashes. I might be able to play 20 turns with no crashes. Nothing in particular seems to cause the crash. Unfortunately, I can only update the drivers through Sony because of the switchable graphics. So the drivers are not the very latest because it apparently takes Sony some time to do whatever it is that they do with the drivers, The AMD site has a warning that says not to use their drivers if you have switchable graphics. You must wait for Sony. I know they did some optimization with Intel. Would that card or the AMD card actually play the game better?

I will attach the DxDiag.txt file and the *.mdmp file. The DxDiag.txt file only shows information for the Intel card. I don’t know how to get it to show the AMD info.

I put all the settings to the lowest setting and it still crashes.

I tried installing the latest Intel drivers. Doing that makes the switchable graphics not work. I can no longer use the AMD card, but I wanted to see if it helped. It did help. It no longer crashes. So the good news is I have a solution. The bad news is that it breaks the switchable graphics feature of my latop. At least I know that my solution will be solved when Sony releases a new driver set.

You could try switching (in the bios) to allow just the AMD card. Then load those drivers. In fact AMD drivers should allow the switching, not the OS. If you have a defective AMD card, using just that; if it crashes, may point to a need to replace the card.
