Crashing with old custom maps

[Minor Annoyance]

It often crashed when I load custom maps old versions but not always. First with a map that I had made myself, but also with the Earth Ice Age map that came with the original Civ4. I thought adding unofficial patches or reinstalling and going back to version 3.02 might be the problem but after several more uninstalls and reinstalls I don't think that's the problem. I'm just hoping I don't have to reinstall the whole think to get it to work right. I'd especially hoping I don't do that and still have it not work.

That's nothing. I tried loading Fall from Heaven II and it crashed my whole system. I've had to reformat my hard drive and there are so many errors on it now that it has taken days to try and get everything back into shape.

Whether or not my experience is just a coincidence is something I don't know. All I know is my PC hasn't been the same since.
