Craziest starting position ever

Wow you can score a bunch of early workers for free here if you play your cards right.

Plant city right there.
Build warriors right from the start, and put them on that hilly plains forest.
As soon as your culture is about to hit 50 (thus pushing him out of the trap) declare war on him. He won't get pushed out by your culture borders if you declare war the turn before the border pops and the warriors will trap him forever (or until you get chariots to finish him) :)

I feel so cruel :D

By the time he gets enough culture to push him out, he wouldn't have more than his starting warrior and would die to Saladin's archers. Might still work with the tile defense, it'd be interesting to see.

No he can build 2 warriors in time using that triple hammer hilly forest at the start and ignores growth. Or 1 if he uses a plain old forest.

And yes the +75% defences couple with the fortify the starting warrior will get will really hurt should saladin try for a kill.

I tried what you suggested, notagoodname. No, Hatty is Creative and there isn't time to build a Warrior. Saladin's stack just sat there, not attacking the Warrior on the plains hill forest. One Warrior was enough to pin it there.

Then I restarted and tried parking the Warrior in Thebes instead. Saladin sent his Scouts out, but the remainder of his units moved to the plains hill forest and just sat there, even after I built a worker and moved it to farm the floodplains. There was only the one Warrior in Thebes.

Then I restarted and tried sending the Warrior out to explore. Same result, except that Saladin's stack moved back and forth a few times before settling on the plains hill forest as their picnic spot. Thebes was undefended.

This was with BetterAI 12-12. I hadn't downloaded the 12-02 version that the save called for.

Well, maybe there's something i'm missing, but from where he sits, he'll only need to expand his border once to push Saladin out. At normal speed, this means getting to 10 culture. The palace provides 2 and creative 2 more, so 4/turn. He'll expand after 3 turns. If he wants to declare war before that, he'll have to do so after only two turns of production. With the plains hill plus the city square, he'll get 4 hammers per turn, so 8 hammers after 2 turns. That's only half of one warrior done.

75% defense is nice, but even that shouldn't be enough for a warrior defending alone against 3 archers with extra first strikes.

Edit : i see Jet has already posted the appropriate response while i was typing mine. Wow, that better AI really is buggy and often dumber than the standard one. I've only played two games with it so far, but in my experience they just produce more units but are even more clueless than before about how to use them.

Ahh whoops i see now, don't know what i was thinking with the border pop happening so slowly. Well at least the strategy works in a way, he doesn't try to make a break out with 1 warrior there so if you can get to bronze or horse early you can score a bunch of free workers.

Otherwise just move and settle south east and trap his capital as others have said.
