Just a quick question really, but how do I solve overcrowding in my cities? I probably missed it somewhere in the manual.

That would be nice! But no it dont happen, you have to add hapiness and health to counter it. Thou I would say towns shoudl reduce overcrowding, only makes sense :(

The crowded condition usually comes up because of a lack of food or too much unhealthyness. Buildings that improve health and happiness are your best counters to overcrowding. Also, telling the governor to prevent growth will help some. This will keep the city from growing out of control until you have the techs and buildings that can sustain larger populations.

If your city is expanding faster than your health and happiness can keep up with, move the tiles being worked around from farms to mines and cottages. This will slow down the growth and allow you to catch up with the buildings needed to manage them.

Also, you can turn people into specialists, which achieves the same effect.

Under the City Management Menu, you can set it to avoid growth to slow it down while you are improving the lands
